In the old days, runners who made it to third base were rewarded with a mug of beer. This is the way the game was meant to be played; pitchers throwing side-armed and a half barrel on the field. Asa Brainard, the pitcher who led Cincinnati’s first professional baseball team to the World Championship in 1869, was paid $1,600. The beer must have been good! Our RedLegg Ale is an American style red ale, the kind you’d find in the hop country of the Pacific Northwest. This deep red ale is a has a great big hop flavor and a slightly sweet finish.

The hops are pretty prominent. I would have liked some balance from the malt, especially more intensity from the raisin and toffee flovrs, but those were dominated by a thin, grainy sweetness. Nice color, but thin mouthfeel.

Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Ah, WTF! This beer is rancid, basically. Pours dark ruby with a big, off-white foam head. Tart fruits and toasty malts in the nose. Extremely sour flavor. In fact, if this was a lambic it wouldn’t be half bad. As it is, I’m concerned. Medium in body with big carbonation. Lasting pucker sour finish. Bummer, mostly.

It poured a copper color with a small white head. The aroma was of sweet malt and citrus. The taste was nutty with hints of butter, fruit, nuts and dough.

Red caramel pour with a rather foamy tan head. Aroma was caramel malt, some hops, a little spicy. Taste was a little sour apple with hops atr the end. It was ok.

22. ounce bottle. Pour is copper with big frothy soapy head that dissipates to film on top. Aroma is sour red apples and malt. Taste is more sweet red apples and spice and malt. Palate is sticky and chaulky that finishes dry. I really enjoyed this one, has some nice characteristics.

Strykzone (7800) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - MAY 6, 2010
The head on this beer can almost be described as nuclear. It jumps up from the pour. Light tan in color it is long lasting and quite fizzy. A pleasant aroma is sweet malt and complex fruit. The beer itself is clear and a soft copper color. Flavor offers gentle fruit notes, light cinnamon, and some grapefruit underneath. As the beer warms some dark fruit and chocolate develop. Things get a bit muddled here and nothing really works well together. Decent, though.

On Tap at "The Pub at Crestview Hills" on a trip to Northern KY - Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, off-white head. Aroma of resiny grapefruity hops and some grainy malt. Body is somewhat thinner and grainy with a touch of toasted malt and earthy hops. Not a bad beer to eat some bar food with.

DalzAle (2040) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - FEB 8, 2010
Bottle bonus thanks to phaleslu! Hazy apricot pour, little carbonation and a little citrus. Flavor is malt and sour apple and tasted slightly oxidied. Glad I got to try it, but will probably try to get another bottle along the way as I think this one has turned from the original flavor intended.

Capa (3628) - DC, Washington DC, USA - OCT 14, 2009
A nice red-copper color with a white head. Bright fruits, malty, a bit of roast, and some caramel in the aroma. Flavor is fruity and sour. Not much in the way of hops but full of caramel malts. Some lemon and cherry as well. I’m not a fan.

Overall pretty boring for a red. Not much flavor. Simple caramel malts with a touch of odd spice and rotten grain and old hops.
