Bottle: Good nose, cream, Malt ball, coffee, almond. Nice orangy/reddish brown color. No head, though ok carbonation. Sweet and bitter, Chocolate, some grapefruit, some metallic. Creamy smooth, a little bitterness on the finish. Tasty, my pick of the four i've had, kinda stouty. Might be a tad out of style with its bitterness. On tap at the brewery. Very dark purplish brown color. Little head fades quickly. Very smooth drinking, nice malty flavor. Somewhat "woody" flavor too. Finishes just as smooth as it starts.

Every time I think I've gotten completely bored with an overdone style like the brown ale, I stumble on something unexpected. Has a dark reddish color with very little carbonation and a roasted smell. Taste is smooth roasted malt and finishes with little bitterness, but is a bit too thin for me. Overall it is a good brew, but I prefer heavier dark beers. Hopistotle420 (1178) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 11, 2003
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2003 Deep ruby-brown hue. Small off white quickly dissipating head. Nutty, fruity, lightly toasted malt aroma. Starts mildly sweet. Faint caramel, toffee accents. Light to medium bodied, subtle nuttiness, finishing well rounded and clean. A bit thin for my tastes, but a very drinkable session brown. Ruby hued dark caramel sheen. Thin beige head. Light, big bubbled carbonation. Aroma of toasted chocolate and caramel and dry nuts. Soft and gentle with a low carbonation. Rich toffee and dry nuts with a hint of cocoa in the aftertaste. Medium light body. Fairly dry. Low bitterness. Smooth and easy drinking, if thinnish. Finishes with bittersweet cocoa and dry nuts and a thicker body. A good, wholesome version.
