Smells better than it looks. Brown beers are generally one of my favorite styles, but this one is weak and thin. Bitter - no hint of caramel like the description promised. ericnixon (745) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 13, 2006
On tap at the Barrington Brewery. Nice dark brown, so dark it’s almost black, color. Kind of bitter, but otherwise no real perceptable taste. Very watery! MaiBockAddict (1497) - Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA - AUG 15, 2005
Tap at the brewpub. Brown, clear, thin tan head. Roasty carmel fruity aroma. Smooth carmel roasty flavors. Medium body. Malty finish. mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - FEB 20, 2005
On tap at the brewpub. Deep dark brown in color with a nice tan head. Malty and hoppy. Well balanced. Nutty. Subtle roastiness. Enjoyable. OldGrowth (3665) - the Containment Area, North Carolina, USA - APR 23, 2004
Bottle: Good nose, cream, Malt ball, coffee, almond. Nice orangy/reddish brown color. No head, though ok carbonation. Sweet and bitter, Chocolate, some grapefruit, some metallic. Creamy smooth, a little bitterness on the finish. Tasty, my pick of the four i've had, kinda stouty. Might be a tad out of style with its bitterness.

On tap at the brewery. Very dark purplish brown color. Little head fades quickly. Very smooth drinking, nice malty flavor. Somewhat "woody" flavor too. Finishes just as smooth as it starts. muzzlehatch (4975) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 30, 2003
Every time I think I've gotten completely bored with an overdone style like the brown ale, I stumble on something unexpected. This strongly malty-sweet, hazelnutty-maply smooth fruity concoction dried out nicely at the end and left an excellent impression; I knew after this (my 2nd sample) that this brewpub would be special. boto (2283) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - MAR 5, 2003
I'd almost call this a stout. Very dark and roasted tsste, wiwth hints of chocolate. Very Good! vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 13, 2003
Has a dark reddish color with very little carbonation and a roasted smell. Taste is smooth roasted malt and finishes with little bitterness, but is a bit too thin for me. Overall it is a good brew, but I prefer heavier dark beers. Hopistotle420 (1177) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 11, 2003
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2003 Deep ruby-brown hue. Small off white quickly dissipating head. Nutty, fruity, lightly toasted malt aroma. Starts mildly sweet. Faint caramel, toffee accents. Light to medium bodied, subtle nuttiness, finishing well rounded and clean. A bit thin for my tastes, but a very drinkable session brown. Finishes with faint hops off in the distance, nicely balanced...
