UPDATED: AUG 19, 2003 Deep ruby-brown hue. Small off white quickly dissipating head. Nutty, fruity, lightly toasted malt aroma. Starts mildly sweet. Faint caramel, toffee accents. Light to medium bodied, subtle nuttiness, finishing well rounded and clean. A bit thin for my tastes, but a very drinkable session brown. Finishes with faint hops off in the distance, nicely balanced... JoeMcPhee (9427) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 31, 2008
Bottle shared by goldtwins. Deep dark brown beer. Aroma is quite sweet and malty with a nice rich nutty component. Lightly fruity over a nice sweet malty base. Soft chewy character on the back. It’s slightly sweet but quite nice nonetheless. hayduke (5548) - Eureka, California, USA - AUG 7, 2009
Another draft pour at the Egremont Inn in Great Barrington, MA this came a hazy brown with a light tan head and light lacing. Nose of caramel malts and nuts, and some light chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is malty with some hints of fruit. Finish is dry and lightly bitter. Decent brown. closey22 (1971) - Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, USA - OCT 7, 2012
Deep ruby brown w/ thin tan head; toasty malt aroma w/ same flavor w/ touch of chocolate, but feels a bit light and acidic; finish is a bit weak, but overall a good beer. MaBeer1972 (2080) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 20, 2003
On tap at the brewery. Very dark purplish brown color. Little head fades quickly. Very smooth drinking, nice malty flavor. Somewhat "woody" flavor too. Finishes just as smooth as it starts.

Has a dark reddish color with very little carbonation and a roasted smell. Taste is smooth roasted malt and finishes with little bitterness, but is a bit too thin for me. Overall it is a good brew, but I prefer heavier dark beers. TheEpeeist (3709) - Media, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 9, 2009
22 oz bottle; purchase by September. Clear burgundy brown with a beige coating. Nose is woody grape, mild dark roast and fudge. Medium body with a sharp, sour tang. Taste is crabapple, cider vinegar and mold with hints of cherry. Dusty dry finish with tobacco and ash. I don’t think this is supposed to be a sour ale but as such it’s not horrible. The aftertaste gets funky after a while. One glass is enough. KariCupcake (214) - Lenox, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 13, 2006
Smells better than it looks. Brown beers are generally one of my favorite styles, but this one is weak and thin. Bitter - no hint of caramel like the description promised. TomDecapolis (4618) - Milton, Delaware, USA - JAN 27, 2009
22 oz bottle from the brewery. Pours a mostly translucent brown with a bunch of amber notes and a small to medium creamy and bubbly off white head that left some lacing. Aroma of caramel, nuts, very light buttery notes and some chocolate. Flavor of...interestly enough...sour cherries. While I think there may be something a litlte off here...the sour cherry flavor which I assume the brewer was not going for actually worked out ok. Under that initial sour cherry flavor I got some nuts, light caramel and grainy malts. This one is hard to put numbers to...but I’m gonna have to keep style in mind on this one because I think an infection set in and the brewery most likely did not intend for it to turn out this way. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - SEP 28, 2010
22oz bottle, thanks chriso. Large tan head atop dark brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, some nut, caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, sour cherry -- clearly infected. Smooth light-medium body.
