Bottle, 75cl. There’s a few small floaties in this one, else it’s clear, with a dark amber body and a small but firm light beige head. The aroma has some toffee and a little bit of roasted malts, as well as both fresh and dried fruits. Mostly dried though. The flavor has a pleasant sweetness, with malts, roasted notes, dried fruits and some faint bitterness. Medium to full body, dry and pleasantly carbonated. There’s a more pronounced bitterness in the end, but still it can’t really be classified as bitter. Anyway, it’s a beer I wouldn’t mind drinking again, I like the way the flavors are integrated. 120218 Benzai (16569) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JUL 28, 2014

33 cl. bottle @ ’t Brugs Beertje // 7 % Belgian Ale commissioned by Brugs Bierinstituut at the Proef // haven’t seen this anywhere else except @ ‘t Brugs Beertje & @ Brugs Beer Festival // assume that this is a very local beer // label is just the name in fancy Germanic letter type // reddish amber with an uneven off-white head // smells of sweet caramel, candy sugar, caramelized apple, caramel malts // taste is Belgian yeast, sweet caramel apples, candy fruits, caramelized brown sugar, dash coffee, bitter floral finish // bit too much carb. for me // much better than I expected this is quite good // definitely better & more memorable than the White Zwaan that they also commissioned, if you ever come across this, you might consider picking it up Fin (10841) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 15, 2011
Bottle at Hasselt Beer Festival, Hasselt, Limburg, Belgium 12.11.11 in company of Loz, Jackie, Simon and David. Pours mid amber with lacing atop. Fresh and rather fruity, good bittersweet beer. My notes are rather sketchy with this one I’m afraid. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4 JorisPPattyn (10062) - BELGIUM - MAY 21, 2011
Good cream-coloured head with some lace over deep red-copper beer. Lightly smoked - like roasted chestnuts and roast malts, faintly spiced smelling. Taste turns out to be more bitter than expected, and definitely spiced; pinch of cacaopowder. Quite slick, well-bodied, even a bit chewy. Interesting, but not really great. Strikes me as a rather Walloon-style strong ale.
