COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Basilius is een donker koperkleurig bier van 7% alc. VOL. Dit dorstlessend bier haalt zijn zachte karamelaromas uitsluitend uit de gebruikte gerstmouten. De hopsoorten zorgen daarentegen voor een subtiel fruitig (sinaasappel) en kruidig aroma en een verfijnde bitterheid. Bottle @ Vlaamse Reus. Copper coloured, beige foamy head. Nose is caramel malts, grassy, creamy, light grainy. Flavour is caramel, creamy, malty, grainy. Candy sugar. Soft mouth feel. Dont get the Amarillo. Soft carbonation. Ok drinkable.

Sample draught @BBF 02/2014, ZA. Complex malt-aromatics ranging from candied orange, maple syrup, prune jam and cassonade, evened out by a modern dry palate and great choice of dry hops to top off the desert dubbel base with spicy orange zest and some green hop bitterness. No traditional Belgian estery fumes whatsoever. Easily one of the more accomplished, elegant and finely composed beers, at risk of being overshouted by bolder un-belgian concoctions at the festival. - To revisit from bottle.

Brugs Beerfest febr. 13. Copper color, with small off-white head. Aroma: caramel, spice. Medium body. Taste: sweet, caramel, chocolate, soft bitter touch.

Bottle in Bruges. Poured a hazy amber, with a dense white head. Aroma of spice, caramel and Belgian yeast. Biscuity malt flavours, with candy sugar and tinned fruit. Finish was dry grain, straw and burnt sugar.

Clear red copper, nice frothy tan head, stays a while, thin layer remains, not much lacing; sweet malty nose, somewhat vinous, brown sugar, caramel, roasty, nuts, dark fruit syrup, raisins, orange peel, spices; medium roasty sweetbitter taste, hint of chocolate; full-bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation; nice bittersweet finish with spicy notes, malty bitterness at the end.

Bire du Brugs Bierinstituut brasse chez de Proef, et titrant 7% abv. Elle contient 5 malts dorge, et 2 houblons: Saaz et Amarillo. Couleur ambre fonc cuivr moyen. Clart nette. Bulles fines partout vives. Mousse beige fonc bien crmeuse avec des nappes en haut, stable 5 mm. Armes de cerise rouge sucre, reine-claude, miel de tilleul, malt cara et grill, candi brun. 1re bouche douce avec beaucoup de malt et dpices brunes. Arrire-bouche riche, assez dense, sur lOrient. 2me o la texture sarrondit encore. Bel quilibre malt/houblon avec du piment doux. 3me la superbe densit de saveurs, avec un zeste dorange pour peaufiner. Arrire-bouche riche en nuances, complexe. La longueur dbute sur le caramel et du houblon, dans un assemblage curieux mais vif. La suite est beaucoup plus homogne et fondue. La levure est pice, herbace, trs bien pour le genre. Lalcool remplit son rle, mais je le trouve un peu au taquet. La finale donne quelques baies des bois et myrtille. CONCLUSION: une grande recette assurment, une ralisation trs belle mais qui nest pas sans faille, notamment en dbut de longueur et sur le soutien apport par lalcool.

Ambre fonce voile, effervescence moyenne, col blanc moyen-fin. Malts caramel trs prsents mais nanmoins agrables, petit fruit, amertume lgrement rglisse bien prsente par la suite.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark brown/red with a small ring of head. Aroma of various autumn spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, some yeast, bread and caramel malts. Flavour of caramel malts, toasted nuts, yeast, spices, acid, orange peel, with a perfumed aftertaste. Nice to begin with but has a really unpleasant aftertaste. Dont usually dump beer...
