Nocturne (1992) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2013
500ml bottle. Near black with ruby glints. Nice creamy head on it. Great aroma out of the bottle. Powerful dark, ashy roast with chocolate and vanilla notes, plus faint forest twigs and embers in the background. Tastes much the same but a bit softer and less complex. Dry, smokey and roasty with vanilla and faint hints of fruit. A top notch creation.

bottle at jens ... deep black ... thick tan head ... colapses to thin lacing ... deep chocolate malts ... hint of sourness on nose ... deep roast ... light chocolate malt ... dark malts ... low carbonation (considering it big foam on pour) ... thin but not too thin mouthfeel ... all round pretty decent.

berkshirejohn (6655) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 20, 2012
50cl bottle from Toscanaccio, Winchester. Pitch black with a ring of beige head - looking as much like a stout as it’s possible to look without being a stout; sweet chocolate malt aroma; velvety smooth and soft in the mouth with a deeply malty taste - sweet, lactic and chocolately; before a light twang of bitterness from the hops and a thin, dry, finish. This is very nice, but it’s hard to define the style - seems too sweet to be a Schwarzbier.
