, wolverhampton. Almost black ale with medium Michael head. Aroma of cocoa. Taste is smooth chocolate, some dark berries and coffee. There is more sweetness there than I remember in the bottled version. Smooth on palate but a little thin. A very good beer.
Cask at the Catherine Wheel (JDW), Henley. A great looking beer - a beautiful deep cherry red colour, almost black, and with a tight beige head; the aroma is pure drinking chocolate; in the mouth it’s rich and chocolatey, in a chocolate milk sort of way, but unfortunately it’s also very sweet; the coffee comes through in the dry finish. Overall it’s very easy to drink, but a touch too sweet for me.
