First had this in my local Wetherspoons pub (10 Jan 2012) and wasn’t impressed, saw it again at the Wetherspoons in Liverpool (John Lennon) Airport and thought I’d give it another chance. It has been brewed purely for the Wetherspoons chain of pubs, so easy to find.
This review is from the hand pulled pint I had in Liverpool: the beer is a deep amber colour, an off-white head sits on top, nothing exciting, but looks OK.
The nose and taste lead with malts, semi-sweet caramel feel to both aroma and flavours in the mouth. A mild citrusy hop bitterness is just under the surface and exerts its presence more towards the end of each gulp or sip.
Medium body depth and nicely balanced: it isn’t going to set your taste buds racing but it is decent enough to have more than one of. The first time I tried it the condition was poor, which is why I didn’t review it, this was a fresher pint and obviously well looked after. Cask, handpump at The Moon Under Water, JDW, Cheltenham, Glos weekend of Cheltenham Folk Festival Sat 11th Feb 2012 Gold in colour with a white head. This is quite soft in the mouth with some sweet citrus flavours and a light creamy vanilla flavour, easy drinking with some light caramel to the fore. Served in good nick this ok. Sweet caramelly mashy malts. Typical dark bitter. Typical Batemans. Strange almnondy twist in the mouth which stays in the finish. Fruity, but otherwise little more than adequate.

Cask (handpump) @ Richard John Blackler - JDW, Units 1 & 2, Charlotte Row, Great Charlotte Street, Liverpool, Merseyside, England L1 1HU.
Clear medium yellow orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, light to moderate hoppy, fruity, warm citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, fruity, wood. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.
Cask, Last Plantagent, Leicester. Golden with a small foam. Aromas are biscuit and toffee with spices. Flavours are toffee with leafy autumn hops. OK, but a bit boring. Has the same apathetic reaction as voting.

Cask. Deep amber/brown color with a small off-white head. The nose is full of nuts, a bit grassy, some sweet malts. The taste is mildly sweet, the finish dry. The body’s medium, the carbonation soft. Overall, a very safe bitter. Not bad, but completely uninspiring. sm89walt (2080) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JAN 29, 2012
Cask - The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Fine bubbly white head, mostly lasting, clear amber body. Biscuit, bread and yeast profile. Sweet brown sugary and caramel, toffee flavours. An ok grassy, toasty, burnt sugar bitterness. Some Batemans yeast character all-round. Good length, light to medium body, softish mouthfeel. Not great but not terrible either. cgarvieuk (25984) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 2, 2012
