A rich aroma of hops and malt develops a full texture in the mouth. It has a long, deep, bitter-sweet finish. Without doubt an exceptional best bitter.

Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt. Challenger and East Kent Goldings hops.

Distinct aroma of paint - not nice. Also looks insipid and flat in the glass. Taste is pleasant, sweet, a little bland. Nothing really to recommend it - and it smells horrible.

Pours clear dark amber colour with a reasonable white head. Aromas of caramel, nuts and dough. Lovely medium bitter taste - more caramel. Not overly fizzy with a fairly long lasting finish. All in all an excellent bitter.

Bottle with my father in law. A nice, simple, malt-forward bitter. It has a very traditional flavor, with some caramel sweetness and a light, earthy hop finish. Nothing too crazy, but it went well with food.

500ml bbDec17, Waitrose Hull before debcle. - "Our premium amber ale". Some soapy caramels and nettle in aroma, some alcohol too. Nascent crme caramel and herbal tee bitters, pear drops and pear syrup drowned in an inexpressive papery dryness with brown sugar contours. Unbalanced but drinkable with an original pear skin aftertaste.

Taste of caramel, toasted malts, brown bread, slight red berries, a little dried fruit and subtle spicy hops. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A soft, malty bitterness in the finish. Toffee, syrup, rye bread with hints of fruit in the aroma.
Hints of roastiness in the taste. Both maltiness and bitterness comes to play in the taste even though the bitterness is a bit more predominant.
Smooth silky texture with just enough carbonation.
A nice brittish ale.

500ml bottle from Whole Foods, Giffnock (1.79):
Nice stuff but probably not quite as good as Baths Wild Hare that I tried last. Obviously a little darker & the sweetness seemed more pronounced at times with a nice combination of darker malts, toasted flavours & some sugars that complimented the caramel & toffee flavours nicely. Nothing seemed overdone & a good balance was maintained throughout, making this one another decent session offering but Im probably go back to other beers before having this one again; still its definitely a nice beer & well worth trying.
