August 2017 - Cask, handpull, at GBBF 2017, Kensington Olympia. As 'Bathams Mild'. Very happy to catch up with this classic Midlands mild, which I have wanted to try for some time. Dark brown with an orange hue, big foamy off-white head. Aroma is light chocolate and cola. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is watery chocolate malts, demerara and molasses, watery finish but smooth malts and very drinkable, some good nuance over the course of a third, maybe even more from a pint. (6-4-7-4-14=3.5)

GBBF Day 1. Cask. Clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, modest carbonation. Dry sweetish malts, some toffee. Ripe fruits. A trace of annoying eggy yeast. A bit flat and eggy but jus about passes muster.

Cask at GBBF’17, day one, 08/08/17. Drank a good few gallons of this back in my days living in Brum and the Black Country but time to catch up on a rate ! Rich mahogany/chestnut brown with a decent light beige cap. Nose is biscuit, toffee, grains, brown bread. Taste comprises brown bread, dried fruits, glimmer of honey, dusty, biscuit crumbs. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying close. Decent ’classic’ mild.

Cask at GBBF ’17, 11/08/17. Chocolate aroma with a sour more medicinal/red wine edge. Reddish brown. Frothy off-white head. Sweet. Fruity. Sweet liqueur. Malt base. Medium bodied. Slick. Flat carbonation. Muted finish.I know I am going to score it much higher than average but I really like a beer like this. Goes down so easy.

Scopey (15427) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 8, 2017
Cask at GBBF. It pours clear deep brown with medium beige head. The aroma is earthy, toasted nut, earthy, wood, leather and a touch of caramel. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, earthy roast, leather, wood, toasted nut and earth with a dry finish. Light body and soft carbonation. Not much depth, but drinks easy. OK.

Beese (3064) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - AUG 8, 2017
Cask at The Great British Beer Festival 2017, Kensington Olympia. A surprisingly solid beer and good example of style. Clear dark brown, with a dense, off white head. A good malty, grassy aroma, with a full body and balanced flavour.
