Tap at brewery. Pours black with ruby highlights, and a small, creamy tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is dark roast, coffee, and chocolate malt with leather notes and prunes, dates, and woody hops. Flavor is dark malt (roast, coffee, chocolate), light hop bitterness with some malt bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation, light warmth. Pours pitch black topped off with a thin tan head. The nose was roasted malts, with coffee and a touch of chocolate chucked in for good measure. Tastewise it was mostly chocolate, kind of smooth like melted milk chocolate. Quite nice really. Drake (13728) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 22, 2011
Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a very dark ruby color with a medium sized tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet roasted malts. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, a milky note, extract and a faint hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Sticky texture. emacgee (4675) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - FEB 4, 2011
Shared via growler at Pre Sex. Pours dark black with one finger of tan head. Nose is papery and musty with some cardboard and unsweetened chocolate. Flavor: see aroma. Dry/chalky palate. Not a fan.
