Our Schwarzbier is a jet-black mystery, delivering a surprisingly light body and bright hop profile without the heavy roast qualities you find in most dark beers. 12 oz can purchased at the Trader Joe’s in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Canned on 4/3/17 is what I believe it says on the bottom of the can (it’s a little smudged). The pour is a black deep brown with a one inch khaki head that falls pretty quick. The aroma is cane sugar, roast malt, and additional char. The taste is the roast malt initially, followed by pine and the cane sugar, along with a bit of soft milkiness and finishing dry with additional roast and char. The palate is light to medium bodied, active carbonation and the clean dry roast finish. Easy drinking beer, nicely done.

Pours mahogany with white head. Scent is smoky chocolate. Taste follows with roast but and chocolate as well as hoppy notes mixed in. Light body with a minimally dry finish. A unique balanced beer that grows on me as I drink it.

Tap. Pours clear reddish mahogany, large creamy beige head, dissipates slowly, great lacing. Aroma is roasty, toast, hints of Noble hops, Bready malt. Flavor is light sweet, very light bitter, clean and malty. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Can. Black pour with a small beige head that soon recedes to a splotchy film. The nose is mild with cocoa and a trace of citrus. The taste is similarly mild with cocoa, dust, molasses and pine. The palate was light but effective. Finished short. Overall: OK

Tap at the source with blonderedhead.Pint glass. Deep cola brown....basically black. Off white, maybe tan quarter finger head. Nose is roasty and malty. Just a hint of espresso. Taste has plenty of roasted malt and nut qualities. Some smoke presence. Bitterness coming through in the form of almost dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is clean and finish pretty crisp. An average to just above average representation of the style. I could take another glance at this star.

Deep brown body beneath an off white head. Aromas of caramel, earthiness, roasted nuts. Simple but we’ll executed. Smooth palate. Nothing extraordinary but solid for the style.
