Dark ale, fermented in the bottle.
Inspired by a Breughel painting, “The Flemish Proverbs” (1559), in which several Flemish proverbs are depicted amongst which is the expression "He’s a pilaarbijter" ("pillar biter"), which means, ’He’s a hypocritical man.’

33ml bottle from Alko in Hetta. Shared at XI Beer Session 18. Nov 2010. Dark amber body with beige head. Malty, prunes and dates to the nose. Hints of alcohol in both aroma and taste, but most of all the flavour is a mix of sweet olum, prunes and nutmeg. Still the aftertaste is soapy and oily. Disappointment!

I wasn't too impressed by this Dubbel. It's not very outspoken, not much special.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop, Brugge. Amber-brown, little head, and some sediment. Has a strength to it, some sugary-bready pale malts behind this with a drab but palatable sweetness. Some fruit is evident in its nose.

Malty and syropy nose. Pale beige large head. Clear brown color. Malty roasty taste with some syrup and hops.

Redbrown ale with big but shortlived head. Taste of caramel, coffee, yeast and something fresh ( spices or hops? ) No bitterness though. Slightly oily with lively carbonation. It’s a nice and even complex brew albeit rather watery.

6.5% ABV bottle from Beer Museum, Brugge, Belgium. Hazy copper coloured with a red fruity and cola flavour followed by a sugary sweet toffee and cherry finish. The flavour is a little ‘fake’.

stijnemans90 (225) - - JAN 21, 2016
Slap, waterig vlak bier. Niets spannends aan, geen karakter, niets. Ik kan deze niet aanraden.

R2k2 (450) - NETHERLANDS - DEC 26, 2015
A somewhat cloudy, but good looking brown beer with a firm, slightly brown layer of foam. Besides the scent of alcohol, the aroma also contains the hint of grain and/or fresh bread. In it’s slightly sweet taste is also the hint of licorice. It leaves a dry palate, and the aftertaste is a combination of metal and bitterness.

Bornyensis (321) - BELGIUM - DEC 5, 2015
Nogal een donkere bruine kleur, zachte bittere smaak, voldoende schuimkraag.

Bottle 33cl. Clear medium amber brown, a lot of tiny bubbles. Large loose foamy beige head, sizzles down gradually, thin layer remains, light lacing; aroma of caramel, light fruit (pear, berries), bit nutty; taste is medium sweet and bitter, malty, bit fruity; medium body, watery to oily texture, average carbonation, aftertaste is mild sweetbitter, bit roasty in the finish; on the whole on the thin side.
