COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In our hometown in 1965, Muhammad Ali won the world heavyweight title with a knockout blow some consider a "Phantom Punch". As our tribute to that fight, this big flippin stout packs a wallop of its own, with a ghostly hint of cocoa nib s and vanilla beans.

Can pour into tulip glass from Greg & Janes Beer and Wine. Appearance is opaque black with finger-width light brown foamy head with poor retention and fair sudsy lacing. Aroma is subtle roasted malts, earthy hops and light chocolate and vanilla. Taste is strong roasted malts, chocolate and vanilla; balanced between sweet and bitter. Palate is full bodied with thick texture, lively carbonation and crisp, balanced finish between sweet and bitter. Overall, a really strong beer across many dimensions. Carbonation is a little too strong.

DATE: December 15, 2016... OCCASION: Truly in the Christmas spirit after the LVR chorus/band concert, I toast their efforts with a winter welcomer... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith pint... pours a fizzing three fingers of chunky, cratered brown head that sits atop a jet-black body... lacing is attractively etched in camo designs... a robust blast of cocoa begins the profile, with a toasted malt sense and peat that evokes scotch... some alcoholic phenols escape... the first sip scorches with heat at the throat, but softens to a warm, pleasant aftertaste... a cola consistency prevails, with an oily entrance and a milky end... cocoa, yes, and subtle vanilla, lactic hints of milk, peat and some earthy vegetable...the flavor profile is solid, not spectacular... creates a taut, enjoyable experience that is not as much of a punch as advertised...

Dark copper, explosive head, little lace. Liqueur and coffee nose. Medium to full body, intense flavor, bright and subtle mouthfeel, avg length, balanced finish. Bitter, crisp, appears drier than it is. Coffee more than chocolate flavor, vanilla. Big but lean stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2016 Dark brown pour with a large frothy tan head. Aroma is malty but not overly pronounced. Solid stout backbone, malty, slightly roasty, mild bitterness in finish, not my favorite flavor profile. Soft, medium body.
