Bottle served in a dimpled mug. Pours dark cola in color. No head, no lace. Nose of sweet dates, molasses, brown sugar, and fig aroma and flavor. Sweet flavor. Medium body, decent carbonation, oily-slick texture, and a sticky malt finish. The alcohol is well hidden. A rich yet smooth doppelbock.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Toby. A cool label. Pours a dark brown color with a medium grey/beige head. The aroma is rich chocolate and toasted malts. A nice smooth bock, some tobacco and chocolate, light roast, some metallic hops perhaps. Enjoyable. Beerona97 (2399) - Washington, USA - MAY 1, 2010

Bottle. Poured dark red brown with medium beige head. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel and a bit of grass. Sweetish flavour with a bit of bitterness to keep it from being cloying. A bit of spice in the flavour, but not much. A little citrus in the finish, but again not a lot. Doesn’t taste as strong as it is.

Bottle... Poured dark, amberish/brown with a tan head, that dissipated quickly into a bubbling ring around the surface of the beer. Aroma of caramelized sugars, toasted malts, and dark fruits. Tasted very similar to the aroma with the addition of dark, sweet, plum and alcohol notes that complemented nicely. neepsntatties (2028) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 11, 2009
12 oz. bottle. Colour... dark garnet brown with a minimal head. Nose... very malty, brown sugar. Palate... sweet, brown sugary, molasses, sailor jacks, toffee. Certainly one of Bayern’s better offerings! jake65 (3986) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - NOV 4, 2009
At Bayern: Dark brown with a creamy beige head. Whispy lacing. Sweet aroma, rather inticing. Taste is deep with molasses and sweetness. Some caramel. Lightly bitter, but finishes with a deep maltiness and very little roast. Good. **Unfiltered verision was similar, tasted side-by-side, but was a little sweeter and showed more of a toffee and molasses thing in the tail. Final rating is an average of the two. 2/11/09 On draft at the Dog & Pony, Renton, Wa. Aroma is highly malty with faint sourness & alcohol. Appearance is dark brown with a well maintained off white head. Flavor is sour, yet more malty and not tangy. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low carb texture. This beer is unique in that tastes more authentic and traditional as it warms up.
