This is a very drinkable dark beer. High in alcohol content so beware! Fantastic beer to help a retail manager relax after long December days! Bill Becker (1775) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - FEB 17, 2016
Pours a clear mahogany with an inch to 2 inches of tannish foam.
Sweet smelling with doses of brown sugar and molasses and a candy like caramel.
Some roasted malt added to what I got in the smell and I end up with a great tasting Doppelbock. I don’t detect any bitterness and why would I want any? Lol.
Pretty thick mouthfeel with perfect carbonation.
This is SO good! philbertk (1873) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 12, 2010

12oz bottle pours an impressive deep ruby red with mahogany hues and quarter inch tan head. The aroma blooms with caramel candy, dates, prunes and winter spiced cookies. Cool. The taste is similar as caramel mixes with blueberry jam, prune notes and a bit of dates along with some winter spiciness along the edges. This has a nice rich flavor that I’m rather enjoying. Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with some ruby highlights that barley shine through. Upon pouring there is a tiny fizzy white head which fades very fast to leave a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a roasted malt and grainy smell. Along with these smells comes some lighter notes of some darker fruit of plum and cherry as well as a bit of a caramel and brown sugar sweetness. A little bit of an alcohol booziness is there as well producing a rather warming smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a thick and hearty doughy taste with lots of roast and a great deal of sweetness. The sweetness is initially of a caramel and molasses flavor with some other sweet flavors of a dark fruit nature of plum and fig coming to the tongue as the taste moves on further toward the end. A little bit of a graininess develops later in the flavor profile and is joined by just a hint of a warming rum taste. In the end, with the sweetness seeming to step it up even more with more brown sugar and some cherry coming to the tongue, one is left with a nice sweet and roasty warming flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The beer is quite thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower to average side overall. For the style, rum flavor, maltiness and even the sweetness the feel is very nice, bathing the tongue in all the rich flavor.
Overall – A sweeter doppelbock with lots of nice flavor. At only $5.99 (on sale) for a 6 pack this is an amazingly good buy. Very tasty and certainly a nice winter style warmer.

Very dark, amber-brown colour. A buttery, alcoholic aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, medium to thick bodied. A buttery, malt flavour with a very warming finish. One of the better AMerican doppelbocks that I've had. slowrunner77 (12804) - Reno, Nevada, USA - AUG 20, 2014
Nice dark reddis brown color with an everlasting thin cap. Breast aroma with some dark fruit and brown sugar as well. Flavor much the same though a touch richer. Body medium to full, but with ample carbonation to offset. Really solid, nothing spectacular, but no faults. Underrated brew. rproff78 (177) - - NOV 5, 2014
Oh my my. Good good and good. One of the best from bayern brewing in Missoula! kyzr (1596) - Montana, USA - NOV 21, 2003
Dark brown with very little off brown head. Nice toasted sweet malt aroma. Very sweet from the start with touches of toasted nuts. Great mouth feel to this creamy roasted finish. Skyview (6099) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - AUG 7, 2007
Picked up a single 12-oz bottle via beer swap at ABA Annual meeting in Portland, Oregon. Pours a clear, golden brown brew with a thin beige head that slowly dissolves to a fine film, good lacing and white ring. Aroma of smoked apple and plum wood, some roasted nuts, sweet caramel malt, with a touch of flowery hops. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated, semi-sweet with flavors of light milk chocolate, toffee, some apple/pear character and a touch of smokey brown sugar. Finish is sweet, then slightly dry with a faint maple syrup flavor aftertaste. Nice touch for a doppelbock.
