The Face Plant is without question a great beer for after long runs on the slopes. With it’s warming notes that will tickle the senses, one can only do one better by pairing this with a beautiful girl and a warm fire after a day on the snow. The beer is well crafted and holds it’s integrity throughout an entire glass never leaving the consumer with a bad after taste. Definitely a favorite. philbertk (1873) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 12, 2010

Malty and toasty up front, this doppelweizen is just rich enough to make sense as a double of the classic dark weizen beer. Mellow but not boring, this beer is what I look for in cold winter months.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a brownish color with a one finger head of a tan colored foam floating atop. The head has a moderate level of retention, slowly fading to leave a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a caramel sweetness mixed with a decent showing of a wheaty and toasted malt smell. Along with these aromas comes some other lighter chocolate and toast smells adding a bit more roastiness to the aroma as a whole. Other darker fruit aromas of cherry and raisin are there as well adding a touch more sweetness to the smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet and malty flavor with the mix being of some toasted malt, a little bit of wheat, and a rather decent showing of caramel. Some other flavors of a dark fruit nature are there as well enhancing the other flavors nicely. The dark fruit start out almost entirely of a raisin taste, but as the taste moves on, it gains a bit of a cherry flavor as well. The wheat grows stronger and stronger as the taste advances with the increase in the fruit and a little bit of more roasted malt tastes coming to the tongue, one is left with a nice sweet and malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the darker and roasted flavors of the brew the feel is good and accentuates the flavors rather decently.
Overall – This is a quite tasty doppelbock. Not super wheaty, but smooth, sweet, slightly fruity and rather easy drinking. And for the nice price, this is a good winter go to.

Received single 12-oz bottle from trade with 5000. Pours a semi-clear dark brown colored brew with a thick and rocky off-white head that has some nice retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of multi-grain malt, a hint of chocolate, fruit, some caramel and a touch of banana esters. Taste is quite complex, medium to full bodied, with flavors of chocolate, banana esters, a hint of clove, toffee, some cotton candy, and a touch of blackberry. Finish is slightly dry and has a mild bitterness at first and then a chocolate, brown sugar and banana aftertaste. A little alcohol presence in the finish but not overpowering. Hope to see this beer again next winter.

Bottle. Poured dark brown with thin off white head. Aroma of cloves and citrus. Medium yeasty body with a sweet note. More spice and citrus. Finish is cloves and citrus with breadiness. Beerona97 (2399) - Washington, USA - JAN 2, 2011
Pours dark brown, medium sized beige head has decent retention. Aroma of dark fruit and dough. Taste is pretty sweet, lots of dark fruit again. The yeast gives some funk and the hops an herby balance to the sweetness. Very good beer and not even a hint of 7.5% alc. Thick texture, soft carbonation. Dark amber to brown color. Sips with malt and toffee. Medium bodied. Slight hop bitterness to counter the malt sweetness up front. Full bodied flavor throughout and chocolate in the finish. nealblind (1867) - Seattle, Alabama, USA - JAN 18, 2014
Dark yellow pour. Aroma of wood straw malt coffee. Tastes of coffee. Slightly short of sweet. Light carb thick yet refreshing. Well done doppel. Wheaty earthiness adds complexity.
