Bottle picked up at Total Wine. A little out of season, but still hanging out in the seasonal section for pocket change. I’m in! Football season beer during a baseball game. Not my first experience of this type this year. Pours much darker than expected. A copper brown, with a patchy head. Soft nutty grain aroma. Flavor is pretty nice actually. Some nutty character to match the aroma. A pleasant malt bill. A lighter beer, but has a warming quality to it. Not the only one to feel like this little beer was quite the surprise. The flavor is very nice, and a very pleasant palate overall. Pretty good, and exceptional for the style. luttonm (6169) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 18, 2017
Bottle in Seattle. Thanks Andrew (and Eugene for your rating that inspired us to open this tonight). Fizzy offwhite foam, quickly dissipates to a soapy ring. Dark brown cola with clear edges. Construction isn’t particularly German, under the yeast especially. Malt is a nice dark continental flavor, a little roast. A touch sweeter than expected. Eugene, I agree that this is surprisingly good (unknown US brewery doing a German style? Usually bad) but man I disagree on the final score. Not bad. bpreo (2832) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - APR 2, 2017
Such a lovely aftertaste! Not much else impresses me, but that doesn’t matter! Alphadelic (2235) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 10, 2016
This is really great stuff. It has a sweetness that just makes it a wonderful pairing beer with a range of cheeses and their accompaniments. Perfect drinkability through that texture and carbonation. Good stuff. beastiefan2k (3947) - HdG (past: NYC, KS, Rain City), Maryland, USA - NOV 23, 2014
12oz bottle poured into a mini willibecker glass. Pours [surprisingly] dark brown with a medium head. By looking at it I would guess its a Vienna or even Schwarz before Marzen. Head fades to a surface covering lacing. Aroma is toasty malt with some noble hop character and a mild wet brown bread. All very well melded, well attenuated, lagered malt sweetness. Flavor has more of the black bread touches and ends with a light lingering noble hop character. Perfectly clean, nice soft carbonation, sweetness from malt character only, very nice lagering. Clean, short aftertaste. This was a real surprise and a real treat.

Bottle. Pours a rather dark brown color with a small light tan head on there. Nose is very light for me, with only hints of bread and toast to it. Taste is also pretty light, though stronger, and comes off as a bit sweet, nutty, and toasty. Light drink, but nothing remarkable. Darkmagus82 (2302) - - NOV 4, 2014
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a reddish brown/mahogany color with a nice two finger head of tan colored foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is mainly of sweeter caramel and molasses mixed with some notes of a roasted malt. Along with these smells are some lighter aromas of a darker fruit nature of plum with some other lighter notes of a grass and nut.
Taste – The taste begins much less sweet then would have been anticipated form the nose. The flavor begins with a moderately roasted malt taste along with a light molasses flavor with some notes of coffee. Right from the start there is a bit of an earthy and grainy taste with these creating a base flavor for the brew. As the taste moves forward, some darker fruit flavors of plum and red grape come to the tongue, but these remain quite light. A little bit of a bitter walnut taste comes to the flavor at the very end, leaving one with a dark and slightly more bitter roasted flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer on the average side in both its thickness as well as its carbonation. For the darker flavors of the brew a little more thickness may have been slightly better, but overall the feel was pretty good.
Overall – A decent roasted and slightly more bitter but somewhat still easy drinking marzen. Overall a pretty decent brew and not a bad one to try for yourself to see if it suits your style.
