3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber from World Market. Dark ruby in color upon pouring. Slightly sweet nose of roasted coffee. A hint of sourness as well. Flavor is roasted up front. A little bit of sweet milkiness and chocolate. A little thin, but not too bad.
Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Karl Strauss 26th anniversary tulip glass
From: Albertsons in Alpine, Calif.
Purchased: Oct. 14, 2015
Consumed: Oct. 14, 2015
Misc.: Reviewed as an Olde Ale
Poured a dark brown, mahogany color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki tan, frothy head, which settled nicely on the top. Average, uneven, foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Very good retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled dark chocolate, roasty malts, nuts, sweet caramel, dark toffee, dark red apple peel, faint vanilla and dark cocoa. (Smell - 3.75)
Not as much flavor in the nose as the smell, but still decent. Got dark cocoa, chocolate, roasty nuts, char wood, caramel, toffee and molasses. This would have been higher if it was I was reviewing it as an American Brown Ale. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium-to-full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This was a decent beer. This would have been much better for me had it been an ABA that I was reviewing it as. Great deal though and I’d have it again for sure. (Overall - 3.75)

Aroma is chocolate biscuit, roast. Appearance is dark brown with a hint of red, large frothy light brown head that retains well. Taste is chocolate, light caramel. Light saltiness present. Palate is medium, flavor disappear quickly. Overall a seriously boring bear. Needs more flavor. Chocolate flavor is nice but nothing else going on here. Needs work. Bottle pour. Dark brown with a brown head. Aroma is nuts and coffee. Medium body. Light salty taste. Fatehunter (2640) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - APR 27, 2015
Pours two fingers of light tan head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is vanilla, nutty and roasted malt.
The taste starts with a nice vanilla and nut flavor, then turns down with a watery metallic bitterness. Odd.
The texture is crisp.
It smells fine, but the flavor is a let down. GG (2332) - NorCal, California, USA - NOV 6, 2014
22oz bottle -
Pouring the beer into my glass, I noticed that the head formation was really lacking and I couldn’t remember the last time a beer had such poor pour. Aroma was slightly tart, it had dirty penny, iced tea with just an underlying note of brown sugar. Nutty malt flavors with just a twist of tartness. Some fruity character is also present which I assume is the yeast? Kinda reminds me a little of a poorly made dubbel. Not a waste for $3/bottle.

"kinda subpar, especially when calling it an imperial. abv may be higher, but really it’s just more muddled and rather weakish dark malt flavors, very slight hop and chocolate presence, and some fruity sweetness that doesn’t seem to belong. not a drainpour, but not a deal either, at any price." biznatch (1) - - JUN 12, 2014 does not count
Whenever i open a beer that i have never tried, I always smell it first!! Did anyone else smell right off the bat... vinegar???.. I did and so did my Brother.. Did we get a bad bottle? cause i’d like to think that nobody would knowingly brew something this terrible! beertholomeus (1814) - California, USA - MAY 7, 2014
Pours a reddish brown color with a khaki head. Malt, caramel, toffee and nut aroma. Toffee, caramel, malt, nut, fruit and some hop flavors. Medium body and carbonation. Toffee finish. Jcarb28 (97) - Pico Rivera, California, USA - APR 1, 2014
Poured a dark amber brown. Light roasted, malty, sweet notes. Not too full bodied to the taste with a nutty caramel the sweet taste. A slight sour malt on the palate lingers after the drink. Landmonger (155) - USA - MAR 24, 2014
Pleasant surprise. Not what I expected but still enjoyed, dark brown in color with a thin head, crisp carbonation, thin mouth feel, taste of malt, some fruitness, sourness is prevalent, the lingering sourness and then more warmth than you would expect from a 7.2 abv. Try it with an open mind don’t expect a Brown and you may like it. I did.
