Growing wild on our grandfather’s farm fences and in the tree lines all around our Arnaudville home, we have consumed a lot of fresh passion fruit through the years. The vines still grow abundantly around our family’s crawfish pond and behind the brewery, along the banks of the Bayou Teche. When they are in season, after a hard days work, we look forward to sitting in the shade of a large oak tree on that bayou’s bank, enjoying the pulpy fruit till we nearly make ourselves sick.
When they arrived in Acadiana, our French-speaking ancestors discovered the passion fruit growing here and named it grenade (pronounced grruh-nod). We still call it that today, the fruit’s juice has a refreshingly tropical, guava-like, sweet/tart flavor.
Passionné is our wheat beer, which we brew to quench Acadiana’s warm weather thirsts. The ale is the color of a South Louisiana sun, and pours with the bright citrus flavor of passion fruit.
It’s hot out. Find the shade of a large moss-drenched oak tree on a bayou near you, relax and enjoy a bottle. Welcome to beer drinkers’ paradise.

bottle @ Calandro’s / Baton Rouge LA --- born 6/11/15 --- What did I expect? The date is well enough hidden that I didn’t find it until I put it under the bright lights upon opening it. Out-of-control head sets up everything else. Clear medium-light amber 12" head, lace strips. Taste is far, far from beer - oddly sweet that has lost its malt, nothing else. I was under the impression Calandro’s was the place to buy beer, but only if you want far out-of-date beer.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Clear straw, white head. Lager-like aroma. Taste is pale lager with some passion fruit notes. Light body.

Aroma: primarily pale lager without much fruit; Appearance:clear golden pour with white head that disappears quickly; Taste: lager with fruity finish; Palate: light bodied with short finish; Overall: unpleasant. Would not get again.

On tap JAX. The passion fruit flavour comes at the back and balances the wheat flavour nicely.

jbruner (5289) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - NOV 24, 2016
UPDATED: NOV 24, 2016 Pours a hazy golden brown from the bottle with bubbly white head that dissipates quickly to leave light lace. Aroma of nice tropical fruit notes and mild wheat notes. Taste follows with a mild hint of acidity and tartness. Fruity, but not bad.

Growler from Joe Canal’s in Lawrenceville, NJ. Pours a brassy gold color with a small frothy white head. Aroma of tart fruit and wheat malt. Flavor is light wheat and tangy fruit (passion). Light bodied and a hint of sour fruit in middle. Very refreshing and a nice hot weather wheat ale.

odinstyr (806) - Hamilton, New Jersey, USA - MAY 20, 2016
Pours a slightly hazy gold with a small white head. Smells of passion fruit. Taste is sweet - lightly spiced- passion fruit dominates with a spice wheat followthrough.

Enjoyed at BTBF 2016. Cloudy yellow color. Weed notes. Spicy aroma with some fruit. Fruity nose. Fruit on the flavor as well with an easy finish. Nice.

Bottle grabbed in NOLA. Bubbly, clear gold color with a thin white film. Lightly sweet and sour aroma with a hint of grain. Its an interesting flavor. I wouldn’t immediately guess passion fruit but you definitely get some tart, fruity flavors. Pretty tasty.

(En fût à la brasserie): Jus de fruit de la passion non-sucré, houblons terreux, finale sèche et corps enrobant. Surprenament intéressant.
