Green wax 22oz bottle: pours an oily opaque with a spotty-lacing froth of dark beige head. Has a sweet toasted dark caramel and chocolate nose with some piny hops and a hint of oak and sweet brandy. Starts with good fullness and fine carbonation with sweet dark malts giving way to a drier, roasted and bittersweet dark chocolate finish. Has pretty good complexity, but could use a little less bitterness.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle after cellaring for 25 months. Beer label reads "Devil's Take Imperial Stout Aged in Brandy Barrels," with no mention of it being California brandy (as it is now listed in RateBeer). I bought the bottle at Beach Brewing Company," which is what it says on the bottle. Apparently, the brewery has since been renamed "Reaver Beach Brewing Company." Opaque, dark brown with a 2-finger khaki head and good lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malt, caramel, dark toast, a little cherry and oak. Taste of sweet chocolate, red dessert wine, cherry, roasted malt, toffee, oak and dark fruit. Medium/full body and medium/high carbonization. While the barrel flavor comes through quite well, there is little that is distinctly brandy-like. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at the chriso Easter 2015 tasting - London. Big thanks to Scoopey. Gusher! Pours black-brown with a creamy tan head. The nose gives off a little bit of brett, dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with light chocolate, brett, subtle roast, baking cocoa. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation. Warming finish with notes of dark fruits, brett. Tasty overall, but it seems a bit infected.

Bottle at Chriso easter tasting. 04/04/2015. Thanks to Paul for this one. Opaque black / brown with a lasting tan head. Bit of a gusher. Aroma is plastic, solvent, toasted malt, little tart apple. Flavour is composed of milky tart roast, plastic, solvent, toast, apple, Lingering Warming alcohol. Palate is effervescent, medium bodied.

Bottle shared at Chriso Easter tasting, thanks to Bropey, 04/04/15.
Light black with a decent tan swirl.
Nose is dark fruits, spice, light brandy trace, roasted notes, earthy.
Taste comprises rich dark fruits, charr, toffee, subtle brandy BA effect.
Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, drying close, carrying the ABV well.
Drinkable enough but sub par for style.

ChrisOs Easter Tasting. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Tangy dark malts. Light licorice. Mild brandy. Dark fruits. Light finish. Spicy linger. It lacks cohesion to the point where it becomes a bit too much like hard work.

Scopey (15862) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 6, 2015
Bottle shared at ChrisO. Some gush on the open. It pours dark brown with a decent tan head. The nose is rich roast, earth, light Granny Smith apple (sign of infection?), funk, oak and boozy brandy. The taste is bitter, earthy, roasty, chocolate, drying cocoa, roasted malt, oak, burnt stuff, leather, some acidity, booze, pepper and brandy with a dry, earthy finish. Full body, high carbonation and foamy carbonation. Perhaps slightly infected, but not all bad.

The_Osprey (9343) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 6, 2015
Bottle share at ChrisO’s. Green wax. Black, small foamy brown head, sparse lacing. Aroma is cherry, ashy, some light sour lemon. Body is medium, tingly carbonation, foamy. Taste is cherry, light malts, a little sour, some chocolate. Unfortunately, this is unintentionally bretty.

cgarvieuk (26077) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 4, 2015
Bottle at chrisO... Deep black.. Thin tan lacing.. Soft funky bretty nose... Dark roast.. Dark malts.. Chocolate malts... Long dry chocolate roast

Trade extra. Pours a nice deep black with a effervescent soda head. Nose is some milk chocolate and nice malts. Flavors are off. A lot of acetone and infected flavors. Perhaps a bad bottle or old bottle. A bit sad but these things happen.

burg326 (5613) - Florida, USA - DEC 9, 2013
Poured an oily dark stout brown color with aromas of chocolate, licorice, some light caramel, vanilla and a touch of earth. Flavors are the same with a touch of sweet brandy in the aftertaste. A nice ba stout from these guys.
