UPDATED: FEB 3, 2012 This review is from the first batch of this IPA. I have heard it’s been re tweaked a bit. I’ll re rate this once I have the re tweaked recipe. Hammerhead pours a dark amber color with a small white fluffy head. Good lacing. When I put my nose up to this beer I got zero hop aroma. I kept on trying and trying to get something but there was nothing there. There’s a bit of a sweet malt character but that’s it. I honestly don’t remember the last time I had an IPA lacking any kind of hop aroma. Anyway on to the taste.
So hopefully things change here but no they don’t. I do get some bitter hop mouthfeel here but nothing that screams IPA to me. If I ordered this beer without knowing it was supposed to be an IPA, there would be no way I would know. Really lacking. Sweet malt once again.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, decent carbonation, and like I said above, there was a good amount of bitter mouthfeel here. Radek Kliber (7369) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - JAN 23, 2012

Sampled on draft at the brewery on 7/15/11. Pours a hazy amber color with a large creamy tan head. Aroma of earthy notes and herbal hops. The taste is caramel and earthy hops. A bit of a lingering hop burn. Medium bodied. Kinz (3786) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - JUL 17, 2011
Light amber, good head. Light earthy hop aroma. Caramel accented flavor. Much like an amber in almost every way, just not any real hop character. There is something lurking in the background that appears to be the very, very early onset of an infection. Either that or something added a very unusual flavor that is exactly like that of an early onset infection. I really want this to be a good brewery, but... obguthr (6456) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - JUL 16, 2011

Yes this is getting one of the best ratings of beers i’ve had. The only thing lacking here, is that wonderful IPA smell. It is not for the IPA lover, but the IPA learner. Very mild, smooth, unique flavor. Not like any other IPA out there.. get it. Its more like a Tamed Hammerhead.
