COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. An ode to Professor William Rapaport’s grammatically correct sentence, this mighty imperial oatmeal stout was skillfully aged in bourbon barrels for one year. Notes of roast blend seamlessly with vanilla and rich toffee in this luscious and full bodied brew.

Kind of boozy. Cost 22 for a 22. This is batch #2. It's a good beer at 12% but just not wild with bourbon barrel aged stouts. Kind of boozy at the end also. But this is another notch in the belt. Yeah Beachwood. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is bourbon barrel vanilla roast malts molasses chocolate and a little spice. Taste is more of the nice bourbon barrel vanilla roast malts coffee chocolate and some molasses.

(Rating #7128)

Draught at the 20th Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is vanilla, Bourbon and oak with moderate roast and chocolate malt and medium earthy hops. Flavor is lightly boozy Bourbon, vanilla, oak, prunes, licorice, roast and chocolate malt with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

My Bottom Line:

Bourbon vanilla, licorice and chocolate suffuse this velvety Impy’s body, leading to plenty of warmth and enjoyment.

Further Personal Perceptions:

-A veil of foam surfs the impenetrable darkness.

-Flavor profile is generous yet doesn’t fall into intensity traps.

-Flavor alignement is elegant. Barrel apport is as important as malt character here.

-This type of Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout is now an American classic. And this is a mighty good example of this style.

Bottle.

Snuck out from work on a Friday when I saw on BLAH’s Twitter feed that this became available on the day before. Everything I’ve had from Beachwood has been good from what I remember and this one looked like it would be just as good. Hoping for somewhere in the 4.20-4.35 range.

Poured a pitch black color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki tan, rocky head. Very good amount of thick, spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled dark chocolate, smooth bourbon, espresso, milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, hints of molasses and Mud Slide. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted dark milk chocolate, dark espresso, caramel, toffee, light butterscotch, oaky bourbon, boozier than the nose, but does not taste 12 pct., wet cocoa, roasty malts, cookie dough and hints of sugary molasses. (Taste - 4.25)

Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.50)

Just a very good beer. Not quite great, but very good. Close. (Overall - 4.25)
