COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From a brewery not so far, far away comes Hop Vader, a full-blown west coast hop experience that walks on the dark side. Hop Vader is a black IPA thats fully saturated with Pacific Northwest hops for a citrusy strike. A Jedi mind trick using German black malt give this beer a dark hue with subtle roasty notes. A Death Star-sized dry hop charge using Simcoe and Columbus leaves a dank aroma that would challenge even Master Yoda. Is your organoleptic light saber ready?

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 On tap at at Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach poured into a nonic. Beer pours clear dark brown with a two-finger tan head that leaves rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasty malt, dank leafy hops, citrus peel, and light cocoa. Taste is initially sweet and roasty with cocoa and malt, then some citrus juice cuts through. Pine and herbal bitterness on the finish. Medium body, slightly sticky resin texture, medium-low carbonation, roasty, bitter, and mildly astringent finish.

(Tap) clear, bright, very dark brown colour with a small beige head; aroma of exotic fruit, then roast; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish

On tap at Library Alehouse, Santa Monica. Dark brown with a tan head. Fresh and hoppy with roasted malt, pineapple and some licorice. Kind of smooth mouthfeel. A nicely balanced one.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a dark brown color with a creamy light tan head. The aroma has some nice piney notes hints of fruit. The flavor is the same. Piney hops. Background roast. The bitterness and roast is kept in check. Pretty good for the style.

Dark brown root beer body with a browned head. Piny, fruity, and minty hop aromas dominate. The body too is dominated by hop flavors, again a medley of pine, fruit punch, and mint. Far in the background is a backbone of ultra-smooth, debittered, roasty malt. Very wet on the palate. The finish is resinous, fruity, and smooth, subdued roastyness.

On tap at their place in Long Beach. Pours dark brown to black with a persistent, creamy off white head. Aroma is pine with some citrus. Flavor is really clean, not very bitter and none lingers. Really nice beer.

Black with a bit of thick bubbly foam. Interesting nose. Light body with big taste. A different version of the style. I would like more hops but keep the magic malt recipe.

Draft at brewpub. Dark brown, near black. Beige head. Fairly strong bitterness. Moderate pine out front. Roast and cocoa play in the background only. Dry. Lighter medium body. Soft. Oily.

Dark brown-black body with a medium sized light tan head, spotty lacing. Roast, pine, light grapefruit and lemon, earthiness throughout. Medium bodied with moderate to lively carbonation, assertive bitterness, semi-dry throughout.
