COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American red ale brewed with American 2-row malt, a hefty helping of British caramel malt, and a smidgen of pale chocolate malt. Knucklehead Red has a great caramel malt profile that’s perfectly balanced by Columbus, Centennial, and Amarillo hops.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear tawny amber with a medium sized tan head. A touch of citrus on the nose, light malt. Medium bodied, malt, toast, a bit of sweetness. Light orange notes come through over big toast and malt. Slow earthy hop finish.

7th Feb 2017: on a flight at the Long Beach brewery. Red hue to the amber body, off-white crown on top. There is a heavy malt presence throughout, with caramel leading the semi-sweet molasses that dominate the brew. Hops arrive late in the mouth to give a dry finish.

Keg at Beachwood, Long Beach, 17/04/14. Clear reddish amber with a moderate light beige covering that dissipates to edgework. Nose is biscuit, toffee, sweet licks, grain. Taste comprises biscuit malt, toffee, fruit peel, hint of candied orange. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so amber shmamber achieveing the whelming 3. The weakest link in Beachwood’s armour on this visit, but that ain’t a bad thing at a 3.0 for 11 beers!

Tap at Beachwood Long Beach. Clear tea red. Good lacing. Tangy, lighter mouthfeel still with red apple skin, brown pear. Slightly tannic, biting. Simple. Not sticky. More aerated carbonation. Some newspaper and nutty, biting bitterness.
