Tap @ FWIBF. Pours a golden orange color with a white head. Aroma is of grapefruit, oak, juicy hops, lots of orange and sweeter citrus fruits. Flavor is again quite juicy with the sweeter citrus fruits like orange, some grapefruit, orange and alcohol. The body is medium with a dry mouth feel. Overall a good DIPA. hayduke (5575) - Eureka, California, USA - JUN 16, 2012
Another gem from THE LOCAL Beer Bar in Eureka, CA. This draft pour came a hazy orange-amber color with a tiny white head. Light lacing. Nose is strongly pine and oak. There is also citrus and coconut in the aroma. In fact it smells like piña colada. Medium in body with a very smooth mouthfeel. The flavor does not show the coconut as much and brings on lots of tropical fruit and citrus The oak is there from the start to the bitter finish. The is an unusual tasting beer, and once you get over the initial shock of the unique aromas and first taste, is very nice drinking. The high ABV is reasonably well hidden and this is a good example of the creative nature of so many our contemporary craft brewers. nickd717 (4774) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 9, 2012
Draft. Somewhat hazy copper color with a small white head. Very interesting aroma with sweet malt and citrusy hops along with some oak and coconut notes. Very tasty; one of the better oaked IPAs I’ve had. Nice sweet malt and coconut flavors. Some citrus and tropical fruit as well as oak. Medium-bodied and smooth with medium-low carbonation. Interesting and tasty beer overall. Slipstream (2661) - USA - MAY 22, 2012
On tap at RnH Bear Republic event. Nice brass pour. Notes of mango, pineapple, and coconut. Interesting IPA with lots of tropical fruit flavor up front and a warm, smooth finish. Very good. Bombtastic37 (1) - - MAY 2, 2012 does not count
Stopped in Healdsburg heading south on 101, decided I wanted to try the Altered Beast the night before. Ryan poured me one with Narration like the Video game. Instantly gave me a smell of Spice from the Oak, same flavor was on the palate as well. Color was awesome, had the true look of a Double, and thickness and richness to match. Savored every drink, took me 30 minutes to finish. Best beer I’ve ever had!

Tap at Browerij lane
Poured like a typical ipa. Nose is hoppy, sweet and malty. Intense big bodied big hops. Malty and bready and oaky, with an odd sweetness.
Maybe not for all night but definitely for a few.

Draught. A big barrel aroma and flavor dominates over dank tropical fruit and pine aromas and sticky sweetness with peppery hop flavors. A bit too much but all well expressed and melded nicely. BREWMUSKCLES (2720) - New Jersey, USA - APR 19, 2012
oil can and turpentine it is slick and syrupy with a malt hit near the end. sticky sweet and flavorfully substantial with good body and hidden alcohol if that can be said re the turpentine. jredmond (8445) - New York, New York, USA - APR 18, 2012
Draft at Rattle. Pours a cloudy amber body with white lacing. Aroma is sweet toasted caramel, chocolate chip cookies, pine hop, and fruit. Mouthfeel is moderate with notes of grass and pine hop. The toasted American Oak really does wonders here - transforming the sweetness to a very pronounced cocoa-like flavor. AcctError54399 (1962) - Manhattan, New York, USA - APR 17, 2012
On tap at rattle. Awesome brew.. Smooth and bitter pine. Supple and notes of honey and husk. Delicious.
