Stopped in Healdsburg heading south on 101, decided I wanted to try the Altered Beast the night before. Ryan poured me one with Narration like the Video game. Instantly gave me a smell of Spice from the Oak, same flavor was on the palate as well. Color was awesome, had the true look of a Double, and thickness and richness to match. Savored every drink, took me 30 minutes to finish. Best beer I’ve ever had! Nik925 (800) - USA - MAR 26, 2012
Allright, got to enter two new Bear Republic beers this year! This one is fantastic...(as are almost all BR beers when they go big). This is huge. Strong presence of pine, bubble gum, and grassiness...a lot of hops went into this baby. Resinous presence in taste and a bit on the palate but in a good way. A fresh oak taste is right there with it, but doesn’t overwhelm. Malt is good, but serves more to show off the huge amount of hops. It all comes together really well. While the name still triggers a memory of the old video game, this a a great beer. TeamTrappist (832) - jericho, New York, USA - APR 29, 2012
Tap at Browerij lane Slipstream (2709) - USA - MAY 22, 2012
Poured like a typical ipa. Nose is hoppy, sweet and malty. Intense big bodied big hops. Malty and bready and oaky, with an odd sweetness.
Maybe not for all night but definitely for a few.
On tap at RnH Bear Republic event. Nice brass pour. Notes of mango, pineapple, and coconut. Interesting IPA with lots of tropical fruit flavor up front and a warm, smooth finish. Very good. nickd717 (4901) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 9, 2012
Draft. Somewhat hazy copper color with a small white head. Very interesting aroma with sweet malt and citrusy hops along with some oak and coconut notes. Very tasty; one of the better oaked IPAs I’ve had. Nice sweet malt and coconut flavors. Some citrus and tropical fruit as well as oak. Medium-bodied and smooth with medium-low carbonation. Interesting and tasty beer overall.

On tap at rattle. Awesome brew.. Smooth and bitter pine. Supple and notes of honey and husk. Delicious. jredmond (8769) - New York, New York, USA - APR 18, 2012
Draft at Rattle. Pours a cloudy amber body with white lacing. Aroma is sweet toasted caramel, chocolate chip cookies, pine hop, and fruit. Mouthfeel is moderate with notes of grass and pine hop. The toasted American Oak really does wonders here - transforming the sweetness to a very pronounced cocoa-like flavor. BREWMUSKCLES (2744) - New Jersey, USA - APR 19, 2012
oil can and turpentine it is slick and syrupy with a malt hit near the end. sticky sweet and flavorfully substantial with good body and hidden alcohol if that can be said re the turpentine.
