Bottle @ The BeerMongers... Poured black with a moderate khaki head. Smooth and balanced. Didn’t lean too far on the hops or the malt. Roast was in there and complimented the floralness of the hops nicely. Some coffee and cocoa too. Green, earthy hop tones and balancing sweetness so the bitterness was just right. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - APR 7, 2013
Some floral inky hop notes along w a grwat deal of dark roast chocolate. Seemed almost like a ligjt imperial stout. Black pour tan head. Flavors of dark roast moderate dark malt sweetness herbal floral hops in moderation and more dry dark roast. Medium body like a light imperial stout. Interesting take on black ipa. dagimp (1008) - Philly, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 6, 2013
From a bomber onto an oversized wine glass. Pours a moderately dark black with frothy white head. Mix of grassy hops and dry clay malt. Mouthfeel is pretty light and dry. Very porter-like. Taste is mainly light/mild pine hops mixed with kiln dried dark malt. The tast is very well balanced and extremely subdued. Not what I'm looking for in a black IPA. This is very much a well hopped porter. Decent but I wouldn't recommend.

Bottle I drank myself sitting out side in the driveway as my 4 year old son Jack sleept in the car. Pours very dark brown to black. nose is unmalted barley, anise & cocoa. first sip is similar with tons of anise which dominates the citrus hop or Iwoould have probably liked this beer more. finish is slightly bitter orange peal and burnt sugar. not bad. Faint roast aroma of cocoa nibs. Black with no foam. Nice coffee overtones with some roasted caramel, espresso and chocolate notes. Subtle hop bitterness on the finish. Overall, a tad disappointing but still flavorful and drinkable. Pretty basic roast/rich flavors with subtle hops. I’d give this a B rating.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Amazing citrus jumps out of the glass. Black with brown highlights and a deep tan head that laces nicely. Flavor is all grapefruit, orange with a great bitter backing. Pith (160) - New York, USA - APR 5, 2013
Pours opaque brown-black with latte foam head. Aroma grass hops and little bit floral. Can smell some malt. Taste super floral start then a brief sojourn into caramel malts but is quickly overwhelmed by floral and grass tacky tacky hops that completely dries out your mouth. A bam of a beer. Not very drinkable because so strong taste it knocks out tastebuds. hopdog (12953) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 5, 2013
22oz bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a small sized tan head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, floral hops, and some citrus. Tastes of chocolate, citrus, caramel, and pine. tcane7 (1674) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 3, 2013
Bottle. Pours a deep brown with thick fluffy tan head and lacing. Nose of fresh piney hops, roasted and chocolate malts. Some hop bitterness but well balanced with sweet and roasted malt. Pretty decent black IPA. bytemesis (8968) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - APR 3, 2013
UPDATED: APR 4, 2013 Bottle. Pours clear dark ruby black with a medium creamy brown head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is hoppy - grapefruit, touch of pine and some underlying coffee. Flavor is definitely IPA - citrus hoppy with underlying roasted malts, perhaps molasses. Lightly sweet and medium bitter. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel. Quite nice, I just wish it was a tad bit roastier.
