Bomber from Capone’s. Pours hazy dark brown toward black with 2-finger well-retained khaki head and a lot of floaties. Nose is roasty dark malt, cacao, resiny hops. Tastes roasty dark malty, with notes of cacao, resiny hops, an overall high IBU level, and a crisp hoppy finish with more notes of roasty malt. cubs (10714) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 21, 2013
Bottle @ Ben and Greg’s apartment. Pours a bit hazy brown appearance with a brown head. A bit spicy, slightly piney, herbal hoopy, roasty aroma. A bit minty, piney, somewhat bitter, chocolate flavor. A little disappointment. marcus (10668) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 16, 2013
Bottle from City Beer. Pours near black with a thick tan head and a citrus and treacle aroma. There is a smooth dark molasses and pine flavor with a dry finish. Sweeter than many other black IPAs. DuffMan (10664) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 13, 2016
Bottle, shared with Parksy. Very dark brown, amber highlights. Aroma of brown bread, chocolate, ripe fruits. Roast and caramel, ripe fruity hops, heavy body, moderately bitter finish. Quite malty, but good. phaleslu (10652) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 3, 2016
Draft at the brewpub, served in a flight. Pours a deep opaque brown with a small tan head that settles into a ring and an island of film, leaving lace in the glass. Notes of roasted malts, citrusy and earthy hops, dark chocolate, and tea. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a bitter, malty mouthfeel. Seems a bit old, which is odd. Not bad, otherwise.

Pours jet black color with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is very roasty and savory hoppy, some resin and pine needle notes appear also, caramel malts, salmiac and some faint hints of peppermint round things up nicely.
Flavor of roasted malts, lots of citric fruits, resinous hops, licorice notes, some wood and even some coffee on the background. Medium carbonation, burnt malty palate with a bitter hoppy kick. The hoppy bitterness turns eventually to almost creamy lingering licorice finish. Excellent.
Dark heavy brown pour, pretty much black, with a thin light beige sticky head. The nose is odd with something like roasted mushrooms and sautéed green bell peppers and an artisanal Italian mushroom sauce. Also a bit roasty, but really it smells like an appetizer at a fine restaurant. Not sure how to feel about that. The flavor is a bit more beery with some dark grains, a bit of roast, and an almost rye-like hoppiness with medium bitterness. Most of the bitter comes from the roast, so the hops are kinda quiet. But overall it’s not very bitter. Kinda quiet for a California BIPA actually. Semi-sweet and just kinda middle-of-the-road. A good into to the style though. Not scary aggressive. deanso (10101) - Chiang Mai, THAILAND - AUG 1, 2014

651mL Pours deep cola to black with massive, tight bubbled lighter tan head. Awesome retention, huge lacing. Nose holds cocoa powder, grilled mango, dark chocolate cake. Taste is denser, nicely bitter, lactic dark chocolate, mild pine. Slight soap and tanginess in the finish. Thicker mouthfeel as it warms. jmgreenuk (9978) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - AUG 1, 2014
Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin light tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, butterscotch. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a rich hop bitter, molasses, sweet fruit palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not a great deal of life and lacks the defining black IPA hop character, but a good beer all the same.
