UPDATED: APR 4, 2013 Bottle. Pours clear dark ruby black with a medium creamy brown head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is hoppy - grapefruit, touch of pine and some underlying coffee. Flavor is definitely IPA - citrus hoppy with underlying roasted malts, perhaps molasses. Lightly sweet and medium bitter. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel. Quite nice, I just wish it was a tad bit roastier.

Dusty bottle from Greenwood. Hopefully this hasn’t been sitting around for aeons. The pour’s deep chestnut brown with a medium tan head. The aroma’s burnt brown sugar, burnt coffee rinds. Some peach and grapefruit. Brash citrus. Cantaloupe. The taste is charred grain, coffee beans, dark chocolate. Bright orange peel. Loads of citrusy hops on the bitter finish. Chocolate orange ice cream. Medium body, smooth carbonation. Very tasty.

Bottle at Rustico Alexandria - staff let me have a sample pour of it from an open bottle, pretty nice of them. Poured a nice dark brown, almost black color with a small tan head. Aroma was notes of citrus, floral hops and a touch of nice roast. Flavor was a lot more roasty than I thought based on the aroma, but still pretty well balanced. Nice bitter notes, pretty tasty.

22. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy tan head. Lots of stringy lace. Nice sweet fresh piney nose. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Sweet chocolate and pine; this is definitely not on the bitter and roasty end of the BIPA spectrum. A little bit of crisp bitterness in the finish, but even at the finish this leans to the chocolatey. Nice little sugary BIPA.

Tallahassee, Fl - Market Square Liquors - 22 oz bomber. Dark brownish-black pour with a nice khaki colored thickish head. Aroma has some dairy accents, a touch of spruce, some brief tobacco notes. Flavor has some cigar tobacco notes, hints of dark chocolate, some minty accents, a touch of citrus bitterness. some trailing earthy potting soil in the back end. Nice textured thick mouthfeel. Very solid

22 ounce bottle from Jungle Jim’s. Nice black color. Hoppy. Crisp. Pretty nice but I have no idea how old the bottle is.

On tap at the Brewery. Pours with a near black body (plenty of brown notes though) with a small but lasting tan head. Aromas of roast, bitter chocolate, pine and grapefruit. Minimal esters, pretty clean. Flavors of roast, chocolate, tobacco and leather. Some citrus, tangerine, pine and herbal hop flavors as well. Roast seems to dominate the hops a bit, but thankfully it is not astringent or very aggressive in its character. Medium bubbles and dry. Pretty tasty.

650 ml bottle, thanks to me, myself and I. Pours a black colour with a creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, salty licorice, resin, caramel and pine. Flavour is very rich with strong floral hoppiness, roastiness, pine needles, spruce, salty licorice, dark chocolate, some coffee and mild herbal notes. Full bodied, slick mouthfeel and very soft carbonation. Long lingering bitter finish with floral bitterness, roastiness and some salt. Excellent balance. Oh my, this is good.
