Not usually an ipa drinker, but this is a deliciously caramelled black ipa. Slightly hoppy. Berard (639) - Salem, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 31, 2013
Bottle. Pours nearly black with creme colored head that dissipates. Very mild carbonation. Bitter chocolate flavors up front with mellow hop flavors on the end. Nice black ipa.

From a bomber, pours jet black with a small white head, aroma of roasty chocolate malts with a nice piney hop presence, with some citrus tang coming through. Carbonation average. Finish is well balanced, bitter but crisp, very moreish. Great beer. glennmastrange (2854) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - SEP 17, 2013
Bottle. Moderate to heavy bread, cereal and toasted for the malt, light to moderate pine for the hops, and dough for the yeast, with a hint of charcoal in the background. Head is small, light brown, with good lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then the long finish is lightly sweet and acidic, and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a carbonation between soft and lively. Although a little stronger in malt than hops, this Black IPA is otherwise perfect. superspak (5500) - Michigan, USA - SEP 19, 2013
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/30/2013. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, tangerine, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, light char, toast, floral, light pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, light char, toast, floral, light pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, cocoa, roasted malt, light char, floral, light pine, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of hop and roasted malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, sticky, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent black IPA! All around great balance and complexity of hop and roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

A bottle pour a few weeks back. Black IPA’s are my favorite all around brewing style. This one held its own and was a true delight. I was pleasantly surprised to find some hints of black licorice in there. Well done. olio (10163) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 28, 2013

Pours jet black color with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is very roasty and savory hoppy, some resin and pine needle notes appear also, caramel malts, salmiac and some faint hints of peppermint round things up nicely.
Flavor of roasted malts, lots of citric fruits, resinous hops, licorice notes, some wood and even some coffee on the background. Medium carbonation, burnt malty palate with a bitter hoppy kick. The hoppy bitterness turns eventually to almost creamy lingering licorice finish. Excellent.

Pours pitch black with a bubbly white head. Aroma of roasty malts, grassy hops, juicy fruitness, licorice and citrus. Taste is smooth, roasty and hoppy with notes of grass, licorice, citrus. Finish is dry, bitter, roasty and fruity with loads of licorice. Quite roasty black IPA, almost feels like an hoppy IS instead. Still very tasty and balanced, though.
Bottle. Pretty much black color, thick brown head. Aroma of pine, spruce, burnt licorice. Taste is bog and roasty burnt espresso with anisette in it, dark unsweetened chocolate. Delicious. JonMoore (2067) - Loughborough, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 2, 2014
Bottle - black with a large tan coloured head. Appealing aroma of light roasted hops, sweet malt, caramel. Flavour doesn’t disappoint, same elements, plus some balancing hoppy bitterness, citrus and pine, that dominates the finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth - a delight to drink.
