Big, bold, and black. Everything roasted out IPA should be, yet this is more in the Black DIPA catagory, though the 8.1% is well hidden. Lots of roast, chocolate malts, and a big swoosh of burnt bitter hoppy goodness at the end. Great brew. salvaticas (775) - - AUG 8, 2013
On tap at the Bear Republic brewery. Pours a solid black. Very smooth though with a nice bite. Well balanced.

Bomber. Pours pitch black with a nice small foamy head that lingers nicely, leaves some webbing too. Aroma is mostly piney hops with some light roasted coffee, light chocolate, and grapefruit too. Taste has a surprisingly juicy hop taste up front with lots of pine and citrus. Finish is moderately bitter with light coffee and chocolate to complement the hops. Medium body, mouthfeel has a nice oiliness. Overall, this is a really good Black IPA. bigguns22 (798) - Maryland, USA - AUG 30, 2013
Jet black with a small tan head. Aroma malty, sweet, pine and coffee. Starts bitter and sweet followed by malt and back to bitter. One of the best black ipa’s I have. If it has a flaw it’s a weak head but everything else is great. RichTheVillan (7850) - Birmingham, West Midlands, ENGLAND - AUG 31, 2013
Bottle from Brewdog Birmingham; dark black pour with foamy white head, piney aroma, grapefruit hop taste backed up with slight roast malts piney hop taste, really good BIPA.

650ml bottle from BrewDog Glasgow. Almost black, not much head. Fruity pine hop aroma. Tar hop flavour. Not as intense as expected. But still a solid black IPA. jerd16 (226) - Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - NOV 10, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Pour BLACK (unsurprisingly) with large and lasting tan head. Aroma is enchanting - Subdued roasted malt, takes a back seat to hop forward citrus and pine. Taste is surprisingly creamy - almost like the beer is masquerading as a stout. Taste is good, if fleeting. Very transient citrus, some pineapple and grapefruit then malty bitterness on the back end. For a guy that doesn’t usually like Black IPA’s due to their roasted malt dominance this was surprisingly enlightening. c0fein (660) - Helsinki, FINLAND - NOV 29, 2013
650ml bottle @ home. Ordered from Ales By Mail. Bottling date 05/20/13. Long lasting sticky foam. Burned cold aroma. Not too toasty black IPA, easier to drink. Yam! suprchunk (2994) - Crestview, Florida, USA - DEC 3, 2013
Black colored pour. Big tan head that slowly falls. Plenty of lacing left behind. Aroma is distinctly hops. But hiding behind it is a ton of malt character. Taste is totally malt with hops following up closely. Tastes like a Scotch ale with hops and more color. Darn good. wyzzywyz22 (2108) - Wirral, Merseyside, ENGLAND - JAN 17, 2014
Bottle from Beers of Europe. Drunk on my 40th. Black pour with a generous tan head. Roast and piney hop nose. Similar flavour with some dark fruit, chocolate and citrus notes. All very well poised. A quality example of the style with high drinkability.
