Bottle. Opaque black pour with a tall, dense brown head. Aroma is citrus and pine notes thrust in front of roasted malt, coffee and hints of dark chocolate. Taste is chocolate and pine mixed with floral hops, citrus, dark coffee burnt caramel and roasted malt. Body is medium with a strong, dense carbonation and strong lingering hop bitterness. Finishes a touch sweeter with more of the chocolate and caramel coming through along with pine oils, citrus fruit, coffee and roasted malt.

Bottle from Bine and Vine: Appeared dark blackish brown color with a thick frothy head. Aroma is subtle with minor traces of hops and roasty malts which reminds me of Black IPA style. The flavor holds a strong rich character of roasted malts that are sustained by a burst of hops that suggest grapefruit, pine, and tastes of perfume or some other taste of scented air freshener.

Tap at Big Hunt. Pours cola with some head. Nose is roasted coffee and aromas show some vanilla and earthy bitterness. Tastes are light sweet and medium to heavy bitterness. Fully body almost creamy. Lovely.

22oz bottle. Dark brown color. Thin khaki head. Couple dots of lace. Bigger body. Lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. Awesome aroma, pretty much exactly what I want from a black IPA. Good bitter dark chocolate, dark roast, nice coffee malt flavors, along with some big earthy, herbal, piney hop. Good moderate to stronger bitter taste, minimal sweet. Awesome black IPA... Good balance of citrus, nutty herbal hop, and roasty herbal chocolate... Def. my kind of black IPA. Assertively hoppy, satisfyingly hoppy. Love it.

Big, bold, and black. Everything roasted out IPA should be, yet this is more in the Black DIPA catagory, though the 8.1% is well hidden. Lots of roast, chocolate malts, and a big swoosh of burnt bitter hoppy goodness at the end. Great brew.

On tap at the Bear Republic brewery. Pours a solid black. Very smooth though with a nice bite. Well balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber. Pours pitch black with a nice small foamy head that lingers nicely, leaves some webbing too. Aroma is mostly piney hops with some light roasted coffee, light chocolate, and grapefruit too. Taste has a surprisingly juicy hop taste up front with lots of pine and citrus. Finish is moderately bitter with light coffee and chocolate to complement the hops. Medium body, mouthfeel has a nice oiliness. Overall, this is a really good Black IPA.

Jet black with a small tan head. Aroma malty, sweet, pine and coffee. Starts bitter and sweet followed by malt and back to bitter. One of the best black ipa’s I have. If it has a flaw it’s a weak head but everything else is great.

650ml bottle from BrewDog Glasgow. Almost black, not much head. Fruity pine hop aroma. Tar hop flavour. Not as intense as expected. But still a solid black IPA.
