anstei (2254) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - FEB 11, 2017
Tap at SF Beer Week Opening Gala. Pours clear golden, big head. Aroma: Lots of malt, Belgian candy. Very sweet, rather heavy body, soft carbonation and smooth, a bit sticky, high malts. Sweet long palate, nice, yet rather too extreme

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy orange gold with small white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is toasted malt and booze. Medium body, caramel, resin, boozy finish, good.

32oz growler from Mom’s in Arlington, pours a mostly clear amber with some soapy, sticky white head. Nose is interesting, malt, something starchy like a soy bean, some dried leaves, some faint oak, yeast, some foreign booze - like Armagnac or something. Flavor is similarly unique, it really doesn’t fit any style. Redolent of honeycomb, some golden raisin, lightly woody but lightly herbal too, a touch medicinal maybe, some butterscotch, light spice, light vanilla. Full bodied, oily, lasting finish. Very interesting.

Draft. Sweeter brew, notes of vanilla, oak, wood, leather, spices, english yeast character. Decent though.

radagast83 (8074) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - JUN 18, 2016
4oz draft pour at Rustico Alexandria. Poured a very clear, golden orange color with a small, very lightly off-white head. Aroma was booze, lots of sweetness in there - totally clean malt character - alcohol burning.

Ahh yes, the rate and elusive English Strong Ale style. Crystal clear golden color, see pic please. Aroma of boozy herbs. Taste is powerful boozy. Holy cow. Definitely the best split pea beer I’ve had in my entire life.

phaleslu (10277) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 3, 2016
Draft at the brewpub, served in a flight. Pours a clear gold color with a small white ring for a head. Notes of apple, oak, tea, grass, astringent booze, wheat, and vegetals. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a bitter, boozy mouthfeel. A bit harsh and uneven.
