An amazing malt. A bit sticky, but well balanced. The bitterness overwhelms the hops but still very tasty. kidmartinek (5001) - austin, Texas, USA - JUN 2, 2010
Orange tinted yellow in color with a good, white, foamy head. A little hazy. Aroma is like the outdoors before a rain, earthy, leafy, and a little belgian yeast. Delicious, light, bitter taste. medium body with average carbonation. Easy and smooth drinking. Quick finish. brainlair (236) - Maryland, USA - MAY 31, 2010
On tap at Capone’s on 5/29/2010. Pours a transparent amber with some pillowy white head. Aroma is slightly malty, with cloves and a touch of sweetness. Flavor has herbal notes, rather dry, some maltiness, and a tinge of funk. Finish has lots of hoppy bitterness. EricE (1367) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 30, 2010
Tap at Capone’s. Clear light brown pour with a slight red tint and a fluffy head. Yeasty aroma with flowers and some hops. Bitter floral flavor with dust. Apple notes and a bitter finish. regspeir (199) - Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 28, 2010
16 oz. draft in a standard pint glass at Capone’s
Poured a dark amber with a nice 2-finger head which lasted. The lacing was heavy and abundant throughout. Nose was malty, cheeries but the hops, pine and citrus were there as well. Consistent with the nose, this was nicely balanced - hops and malt. I noticed earthy, piney hops, malt biscuity sweetness and some citrus. All led to a spicey, peppery slightly bitter finish. Interesting and very tasty brew. Mouthfeel was medium and a little rough. There was only light carbonation. This defied comparisons for me but I know I want to try it again. If you see it - go for it!

Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of hops, grapefruit, tropical fruit, and slight crystal malt. Poured amber/orange in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, tan/sand head that lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly to slightly sparkling. Flavor is heavily bitter and lightly sweet. Tastes of hops, light pine, light grapefruit, slight crystal, malt, slight resin, and hints of vegetables and Earth. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Bitter hop and slight vegetable finish. egajdzis (6675) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 24, 2010
Lightly hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, pine, earthy yeast, caramel malts, spices, clove, toast, light honey, and faint alcohol. Taste of sweeter honey malts, spices, citrus fruits, pine, light banana, and a dry finish. KUEric (977) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAY 18, 2010
NO WONDER I liked this beer. Say the words Racer 5 and I’m happy. I noted a rather westcoast hoppyness that I know and love. It definitely had the Belgian spice notes (as the description says clove) to make this a very balanced beer. that balance as my (and just about everyones) ratings show make for a good beer. Congrats to the guys at Bear Republic for yet another winning brew. ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - MAY 15, 2010
Golden orange, translucent appearance with a small, sine off-white head. Aroma is out of this world... I don’t know where to begin to explain it. Flavor an expansion of the aroma. A little soapy... weird, but unique. I’ll give it that. Neat spice in the palate and finish. Almost pepperish. Really neat hop profile... badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - MAY 15, 2010
Clear copper red with a fizzy white head. Grapefruit caramel and hop aroma. Nice crisp citrus taste moderate bitterness and pleasant fruit flavors. Quite good.
