On tap at RateBeer Best. Pours a dark amber with medium frothy beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is rye, resin, grass. Medium body, rye, spice, toasted malt, light bitterness, very good. bdleedahl (436) - , Saskatchewan, CANADA - APR 11, 2017
On nitro. Great malt bill for this beer, complemented very well by the nitrogen creaminess. I would like to see this beer maybe 20IBUs less to make it perfectly balanced for an imperial red. Tempest SF. DSG (14784) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - FEB 21, 2017
[1/28/17] Bottle/Draught at RateBeer Best festival in Santa Rosa. Dark amber-brown with a nice beige head. Resinous piney hops, malt, caramel, sweet, alcohol, bitter finish. slowrunner77 (12051) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 7, 2014
"this is the newbie i was looking forward too most, and it was not a letdown. toeing the line between strong ale and barleywine. it’s one of the rare "doubles" that still manages to taste like the beer it was based on, but on a much grander scale. I’m a big fan of the aggressive nature of red Rocket, and this one is even better. thicker, fuller body. a dark ruby color. big hops and malt on the nose. a little metallic from some peet, still hoppy and malty sweet. thick. great brew...rivals the Bear’s best!"

At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Clear dark ruby with a thin persistent off white head. Sweet yet hoppy aroma, with brown sugar, floral bitterness, caramelized toffee, and a bit of grapefruit. Nice flavor of candy sugar and dark sweet maltiness, some caramel, but also a big hoppy tone of grapefruity floral hops, lots of bitterness. very balanced but huge and initially almost too sweet. Lots of hops.

Appearance: Pours a deep red with a lasting creamy head.
Aroma: Herbal grassy hops, brown sugar.
Taste: Big bready malt, rock sugar with a bitter hop finish.
Mouthfeel: Sticky with modest carb.
Overall: I’d take regular ol Red Rocket over this any day. I think the larger amounts of malt canceled everything out on this beer, at least for me.
On tap. Pours with a hazed amber brown body and a tan head. Aromas are hoppy, orange, spicy and caramel. Flavors of alcohol, burnt toffee, fruit, bitter. Alcoholic mouthfeel, thin with light bubbles. beersearcher (2382) - Glendale, California, USA - APR 9, 2011
Pours a murky brown. Hops hit the nose pretty quick. Good base of malt. Hops working well. As I drink more it becomes a bit of a slog. Dial back the power and this could really work. TimE (5817) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 8, 2011
dark reddish brown color. Very thick full body. Lots of caramel and strawberries, but a bit too much of everything and doesn’t meld well. JohnnyJ (5562) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 6, 2011
Draft at obriens. Clear dark reddish brown pour, with off-white head. Bunch of sweet malts, caramel, toffee, raisin, fruit, and bitter piney hops in the finish. A big, chewy ASA.
