Tap at Rattle N Hum. Deep black pour. The nose has a nice mix of heavy roast and fairly assertive earthy hops. The palate is quite rich and lovely. Bitter cocoa and strong earthy roastiness. Soft bitterness and a touch of earthiness as well. It’s fairly simple but nice nonetheless. More stout than porter – as is usually the case. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - JUN 28, 2010

Tap at BT. Pours a deep dark woody brown nearing black with a decent head- CO2 pour. Aroma is green, grassy, mint hops, mixed with roast, chocolate malt, and burnt toffee, turning to light smoke harshness and cocoa bean spice. Flavor is toffee, burnt tobacco, roast, chocolate malts, slight pine and mint, and even a slight cherry pit mixed with coffee. Ok. SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - MAR 5, 2010
Draught at the brewpub. Much better than their black raven porter that I had next to this. Black with a tan head. Chocolate and toasty malt aroma. The flavor is pretty much the same with toasty malt sweetness and roasty chocolate. A touch bitter in balance with a medium body. Not much hop flavor. Pretty standard and nothing too interesting, but solid. bb (9697) - Alamo, California, USA - JAN 17, 2010
