Bomber bottle from Riley’s. These beers are a steal. It reminded me a lot of Great Divide’s Old Ruffian...the same malty roasty base layer bursting with aromatic hops. HogTownHarry (6925) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - SEP 14, 2005
Bottle (650ml). Poured deep copper-brown with a big foamy long-lasting light brown head - decent lacing. Aroma very appealing, strong ripe-citrus hops, fresh pine needles, some cereal grain, roast malt, and a bit of pine mulch. Taste follows the nose, some yeasty notes, starts balanced juicy-sweet citrus (grapefruit, orange, lemon) fresh hops and light sweet roast malt, then a gradual shift to a long, soft hop finish. Palate quite creamy and at least medium-bodied for the type. Excellent brew, a great IPA mashed with a decent light bitter. LilKem (1213) - Marietta, Ohio, USA - SEP 11, 2005
smells yummers. hoppy, rye bread, subtle orange blossom and citrus flavors. some pine. like and amber and a IPA had babies. some floral scents like wet rose petals as well. browish red with excellent foamy off-white head. strong rye bread flavor, almost bitter. carbonation and like i might be sucking on the wet rose petals, maybe they are pink? grainy and piney. marcus (10231) - Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 10, 2005
On tap at California Brewfest. This dark brown ale poured with a nice tan head. Nice mslty flavor with a pine undertone. wunderbier (1434) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 10, 2005
Thick, creamy/frothy, tan head. Deep maroon to brown hue. Caramel, spicy rye, pine, citrus, brown sugar, peaches, chocolate, cinnamon. Much like Arrogant Bastard; at least, how I remember it. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter flavor. Moderately sweet, moderately bitter finish. Aftertaste of cinnamon grahm crackers. Very light flavor overall. Starts tasting like cactus after a while. Medium body, watery texture, moderate carbonation.

Mahogany body with nice white head. Lots of lacing. Piney hops and grapefruit nose. Lots of hops in the flavor with a very nice malt balance. A bit of a grainy taste towards the end (rye?). Very nice mephisto (1288) - TAIWAN - AUG 25, 2005
chestnut brown hue w/ beige head. floral aroma of hops w/ a hint of grapefruit. full bodied. hoppy and malty, a typical american ipa. ABUSEDGOAT (2760) - California, USA - AUG 14, 2005
Amber body, grapefruit and hops dominate the aroma. Still, pretty balanced and enjoyable. Flavor is like aroma, reminding me of an IPA. Good stuff. wnp22 (698) - Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, CANADA - AUG 13, 2005
Tasted in Keystone Colorado. Tasted in a somewhat non-descript glass. Tasted at 10K feet above sea level. This is my second rating since arriving in colorado. Whoooopie x 2!!!!!!! At first there was an overwhelming impact of hoppy bitterness. On the bile scale, we are talking around an 8. However, after successive sips from the glass, this beer really brings out a balance that is not at all expected, and is very pleasant.....indeed. Bottle from Premier Gourmet - thanks to rudolf. Poured a rich dark amber with a massive, creamy off-white head that left fantastic lacing. Truly a thing of beauty. Big aroma of citrus, resiny hops, and earthy rye notes. Full mouthfeel, slightly soapy (but in a good way). Flavour is a perfect balance of sprucey hops, dark sugar and sweet malt, with the rye making a welcome appearance towards the finish. Really, REALLY good stuff!
