From a large bottle aromatic, happy, distinctive. Slightly cloudy, lingers on the tongue with a bitter taste. Quality shines throughout, nice brew.

12 oz bottle at Orvars. Slightly hazy amber with off white head. Aroma is piney, grapefruit, slight wood, citrus and flowers. Some rye notes present. Taste is maltier, rye is clearly present and nicely balanced. Pine, grapefruit, orange, wood, resin with a bitter finish. Medium sweet. Really nice one.

Very hop flavor. Good palate and linger. Rye helps with that of course. And that makes it pretty dry. Balance, for that reason is a little wicked, but that's IPAs these days. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours hazy amber with a medium white head. Aromas of pineapple, kiwi, peach, pine. Taste is very fruity with a moderate malty backbone, considering that its a ln imperial IPA it"surprisingly crushable.

Sample on tap at the brewpub. Clear copper pour with lacy white head. Aroma is really spicy, tons of rye, pepper, resinous hoppiness. Taste is really bitter, resinous. Palate is med bodied with light carbonation.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2016 Bottle from BevMo! in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is fruity / bitter sweetness. Some kind of marmalade? A dirty, earthy mealtimes. Taste is a little bit bitter for me and the sweetness seemed a little disconnected. Interesting but my least favorite Bear Republic beer.

Hopmaestro (1439) - rebro, SWEDEN - DEC 10, 2015
Aroma is sweet and malty caramel tones and sticky pine oil. Flowers and resin. Taste is sweet, caramelly in the first wave, before a resinous and mid-spicey rye tone sets in. Theres some apricots in here and citrus tones, but leaning on a smooth and almost creamy mouthfeel. Very well balanced and tasty rye IPA.
