Massive burnt toffee palate almost - but not quite - balanced with fruity resinous hops - not my style (I prefer low malt impact) but I appreciate the quality and the complexity. Fantastic (if this is your style).

22 ounce bottle. Deep amber orange color. Large rocky beige head with clinging lace. Sweet toasted malt nose. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor has earthy, spicy notes. Notes of rye grain, brown sugar and peppery hops. Lots of piney hops in finish. Very flavorful with warming alcohol notes as well. Well done.

Dark amber color with a thick foam. Grainy aroma with caramel and rye. The malts are pretty big with rye spice taking over. Bitterness is there too along with some alcohol bite.

From bomber to pint glass. I haven’t had this for a few years. I seem to recall it being more robust in the past. Caramel, pine needles and slight perfume aroma. Pours a clear, pure copper with off-white head that lingers well and leaves slight caking down the glass. Flavor is overt spice and faint citrus. Finishes is moderately strong bitterness. Some goldenrod in the end of the flavor as it warmed. Bumping it up a little based on my views from days gone by. Hope to make it back to the brewery and try it fresh again there as I remember it well from Healdsburg.

One of my favorite beers!! Pours a dark Amber color. Aroma is filled with pine and grass notes. Taste starts with spicy flavors of the rye malt with a finish of pine and hops. The hops and rye malt compliment each other perfectly. A great classic!!

Bottle. Bought Aug 2012; BBE undated; Drank Dec 2012 - BCA; lots of floaties. Reddish Brown in colour. Hoppy; piney and floral hops. Fruity, citrus fruity; grapefruit and orange. Malty; toasty malts; caramel,rye malt. Nice hop/fruit/malt/spicy balance. Hops relatively mellowed; probably because bottle not fresh. Bittersweet citrus hoppy malty throughout; becoming earthy and spicy (the rye?). Increasingly bitter finish. Enjoyed this. Nice Rye DIPA! (2012-12-09)
