4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 18/20
bitterness is off the charts! this is a strong elixir. appearance is wonderful for any style, espically an IIPA. ive only had a few rye beers so im not sure i understand it fully, but from what i can tell it seems rye and an IIPA are great bedfellows. this is typical for bear republic: intelligent, well planned, well executed. nice and dark color, well balanced and of course the ABV is undetectable. still, this tastes strong as a mack truck ( or 57 chevy) bearing down on you, this is a gift for only 4.99. i had this once before and eagerly awaited it, however upon drinking it i was pushed from drunk into mind eradicating stages due to the strength of this potion. today i have more wits about me to acknowledge its awesome strength, potency and imaginative powers. well done!!!
Tap at ray jays. Copper red with medium white head. Nice malty nose. Taste is perfectly balanced. Good hop character, with heavy sweetness. Very well done. A good beer to always have on hand. stevoj (6227) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JAN 31, 2018
Draft at Rohnert Park location. Dark amber with creamy head, curtains of lacing. Malty aroma, some funky hops. Taste brings in the rye, dark bread flavors, more of the hops, and leaves with a nice lasting tingling on the tongue. Flavorful. Carlisle (909) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 27, 2018

Poured from 22oz bottle a deep amber gold with a large head of foam that dissipated slowly leaving a nice billowy layer that stayed for the entire session.
The smell is very hoppy with a bunch of grapefruit and spices hitting my nose very nicely.
The taste is big on hops up front. Nice flavours of grapefruit and spiciness hit my palate causing me to make a smacking noise. ;^)
There's also a bit of malt presence that sweetens it up just a tad mid way through and the finish is the closest this brew comes to being balanced but...no matter how you slice it, this is one hella good tasting IPA that really satisfies in every category. Oh yeah, aboot the 8%abv...not a factor!
Bottom line: This is a world class IPA. See it? Buy it.

Dark amber color with a thick foam. Grainy aroma with caramel and rye. The malts are pretty big with rye spice taking over. Bitterness is there too along with some alcohol bite. PugUglyBrewer (988) - - APR 10, 2017

From bomber to pint glass. I haven’t had this for a few years. I seem to recall it being more robust in the past. Caramel, pine needles and slight perfume aroma. Pours a clear, pure copper with off-white head that lingers well and leaves slight caking down the glass. Flavor is overt spice and faint citrus. Finishes is moderately strong bitterness. Some goldenrod in the end of the flavor as it warmed. Bumping it up a little based on my views from days gone by. Hope to make it back to the brewery and try it fresh again there as I remember it well from Healdsburg.
