12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained off white head, with extensive lacing, over a hazy light gold (SRM 4) body........nose is pine, resin, heavy fruits with melon, mango tones, dankness all from the hops, light honey, toasted bread, from the malts, balance to the hops......taste is lightly floral honey sweet, with mild toast, wheat, rye spice, heavy pine, resin, dank allium, fruits including orange, tangerine, mango, melon, finishing with moderate hop bitterness, balance to the hops......mouth feel, medium body, moderate alcohol warmth, low carbonation. This is an utterly hop dominated beer in aroma and flavor. The various malts are just adequate to balance the hop contribution. The only flaw is the allium tones from the dankness. BJCP 8/3/16/5/8

Tang-amber color sporting an airy beige head. Lovely burst of juicy PNW hops creates a bouquet thick with forest and pine resin, as well as a touch of citrus. The body delivers pine resiny bitterness, that is quite enjoyable. Lingering bitter-twang on the palate.

Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy and dark gold. An abundance of tropical fruit and citrus aroma. Flavor is a mixture between floral and tropical fruits. Low maltiness but a slight sweet kiss on the finish. Really excellent.

12oz bottle from Three Cellars with no bottle date. IPA pour, fringey head. Aroma has with big citrus and pine, and some toffee. Taste is of sweet fruits, big bitter citrus, chewy pine resin and some toffee. This is big and chewy, quite bitter. Medium bodied with some alcohol presence, the blend is solid and the carbonation is constant. Finishes sweet fruity, with big bitterness back. This is a tasty interesting brew. 14.3

Excellent IPA from Bear Republic. It’s been a while since I’ve had the pleasure of sampling a new beer from this brewer. New ones from these guys are hard to find in eastern PA. The Hop Shovel pours a golden color with an ample white head with plenty of lacing around the inside of the glass. The aroma features some bubbly and lively hop notes, along with some bread, caramel, pale malt, wheat and rye. The flavors are really well-balanced with the wheat and rye to offset the prickly, lively and fruity hop notes.

Tallahassee, Fl - Market Square Liquors - 12 oz bottle. Hazy, light golden pour, fluffy snow white head, nice lacing. Spruce, coriander and some cat urine in the aroma. Flavor is solid with some tropical fruitiness, citrus bitterness, some nectarine fruitiness. Creamy, thick rich mouthfeel. Very solid. Been awhile since I’ve had something new from Bear Republic.

Pours clear gold into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing to coat surface. Hot caramel and resin aromas. Thick with sweet caramel, spicy rye and heather turning to dank resin before the dry, lasting pith finish. Nice update to the west coast style.

Not sure if I got a bad batch or what. Appearance is horrible with plenty of particulate in the glass and bottle. Almost no head and no lacing to be seen. Taste: beer is overly bitter with no real distinguishable hop characteristics except for some notes of pine. Aroma is the best part about this beer and is reminiscent of tropical fruits. Malt: tastes of generic 2 row with not much complexity. However it has a medium to full body that at least is in balance with the hops. With everyone and their mother doing a big Ipa these days, this one just doesn’t stand out. This is the first time I’m considering returning a 6 pack.
