Poured a nice amber caramel with a nice off-white head. A bit of lacing on the way down. Overall, a pretty nice smell, but a little bit lacking, even for how small the beer is. Smells a bit fruity with a few dark sugars. The flavor is an improvement with a little bit more of the yeast coming through in addition to the caramel, toffee, and slight dark fruit presence. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but overall drinkability was good. A nice beer.

How: Tap at Red Bones, Boston
The look: Partly cloudy amber body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Light but pleasant nose with leafy hops. Body is soft and lean but not watery. Taste of bread crust, grainy cereals bringing a forest floor character, dry tree leafs, some raisins. A generous amount of leafy hops. Finish is moderately bitter with a nice light dirty dryness. This is pretty much what I expect from a good dark Mild Ale. Actually I have been served Bitters in England that tasted just like this. A beer like this should only be served cask conditioned. A pretty decent session beer if you ask me. Seeing the low ratings average on ratebeer for a 3.2% Mile Ale was as shocking as finding that my mother is not a virgin.
GABF 2009. Pours a medium copper, clear, thin white head. Aroma is nutty, earthy light roast, some nutty chocolate, toast, light dirt, and grassy hops. Draft sample @ brewpub. Pours a clear deep amber color with a medium off white head. The aroma is weaker and is slightly roasted grains, earthy, floral, and lightly fruity. The flavor is more of the same; grainy malts, earthy, floral, light fruits, with a decent level of bitterness in the finish for 3.2%. Draught at the brewpub during RBSG. Dark amber with a medium-sized head. caramel and fresh bread aroma. flavors of caramel, spicy bread, and strong piney bitterness. From tap at the brewpub. Pours cloudy golden reddish with a small tan head. Vague roasted malt aroma. Light breadish note. Roasted malt and light fruity hops note. Medium bitter and slight fruity into the far finish. Simple and easy.
