This year’s winter warmer is complemented by cocoa nibs and Mexican Chocolate, while the German wheat beer yeast strain lends banana-rama goodness. Old Saint Chango, patron saint of our monkey friends, requested this beer himself.

Dark brown pour with a creamy off white head. Aroma is a metallic cocoa with more metal than chocolate. Flavor allows a little too much alcohol through to the palate... and almost no chocolate. Ok but not good.

One tap @Rattle N Hum. Yupp, quite dunkel and deep this. Dark cloudy charcoal colored with a hefty lacing grey head. It smells just like sesame oil. A by all means I really love the Asian smell, but in a dunkel weisse? Super strange. The sesame oily is overwhelming everything elsewhere and I get nothing but it. The taste however is much more like a relatively normal dunkel weisse. Yeasty banana, it’s nice and dark malty. About average on the carbonation and a good oily texture. Soft chocolate wrapper and a little bit of bitter cocoa in the finish. Ripe fruits and dry licorice pastilles. Strange but I kinda like it more and more down the glass. 17.06.2015

Pours rich brown. Aroma is alcohol, dark fruit pulp, wood and cocoa. Very complicated. Maybe that’s why they’re leaving Texas.

Draft. Crystal clear dark brown body atop medium beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, cocoa, some hot pepper, light caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, orange, some milk chocolate, light habanero. Sticky medium-full body.

Draught at Apex, Portland
Dark brown color. Dusty aroma, caramel. Overly sweet caramel flavor, with low bitterness, and that stale character of American Dunkelweisse; quite fruity though. There is some alcohol perception.
Difficult to drink, cloying.

On tap at Final Gravity. Pours Dark brown with a thick tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a medium-bodied saeet chocolate flavor with some banana ester and a chewy finish.

ACHops (1724) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 17, 2015
On tap @ Bear Republic. Pours thin very dark brown with thin light mocha head. Aroma is dry chocolate malt with slight oaky notes on the back. Taste is clean, light chocolate malt up front, then dry and more chocolate on the finish. Surprisingly hop-free for a winter warmer. Good chocolate flavor though.
