Aromas of pineapple, caramel, black pepper. Bright amber with lasting khaki head. a little flat and light in the mouth. Very grapefruit flavor, bordering on harsh, a little malt behind it, alcohol. bitter finish. Snojerk321 (2960) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 8, 2009
Tap @ Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest 2009. Pours a cloudy deep reddish amber with a small beige ring. Nose holds some candied tree fruits, caramel and toffee. Flavor starts sweet with fruits and finishes slightly bitter and boozy. RollinHard (1024) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - JUN 23, 2009
Pours a burnt orange color. aroma of grapes, toffee, and caramel. Big caramel, bitter pine, and brown sugar in the flavor. Finishes with grapefruit and char. I had hopes for this, but it suffers from a complete lack of finesse, though no one thing was really bad about it. pilsnerrogge (2961) - Finspång, SWEDEN - JUN 5, 2009

Deep hazy amber, small-ish head. Sweet raisin and hop aroma. More sweet raisins in the flavour followed by a long hops and alcohol bitterness.
Hazy red/brown and creamy. Caramel/toffee hints of fruit (deep and darkish) Quite toasty and savoury though. Very big booziness with kicks of liquorice very rich treacly flavours. Amazing burnt sugar finish. Still. A great snifter.

Not a very good BW. Clashing sweetness and bitterness - they don’t synergize and make for a good beer. Brown with not much head. Not much in the nose. Sweetness is cloying, the bitterness, obnoxious and offensive. GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - APR 19, 2009
Draft at Blind Tiger. Poured a hazy dark orange/brown color. The head was sticky, off white, and left some lace behind. Rich aromas of raisin, molasses, fig, and caramel. There was also a whiff of steeping malted barley. Medium to full bodied with moderate bitterness and plenty of alcohol warmth and flavor. Fairly sweet with fig and dark caramel notes. The sugars were tempered somewhat by earthy black tea and bitter citrus rind. Solid barley wine. Beardface (1517) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - APR 17, 2009
On tap at brewpub. Pours out a dark red-brown color, more red than your typical bw with a thick off-white head. Sweet aroma of fruit and floral hops and caramel malt. Flavor very sweet and full of brown sugar, caramel, toffee and citrus, floral and pine notes. Not the typical beer for the style, but I very much enjoyed it all the same. Very refreshing. tgncc (3135) - Bellmore, New York, USA - MAR 28, 2009
One of the sweetest Barley Wines I have ever had. The appearance is an attractive dark red, more red than usual for this style. The aroma was very sweet, fruity, a slight floral hoppiness. The flavor was sweet, fruity, brown sugar, toffee. The finish was a mix of swet sugar, and bittering hops. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Decent overall. ben4321 (6547) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAR 27, 2009
Location: Draft sampling from Whole Foods (Bowery @ Houston St.)
Aroma: Sweet doughy malts, some pine
Appearance: Darkish red, off-white head
Flavor: Sweet mix of fruit flavors, some grains
Palate: Full body, thick/chewy
This was a pretty nice barley wine, strong and sweet, but still hoppy. Definitely worth a try.
