3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the 2008 Strong Ale Festival. Listed as being aged 6 months in a Cabernet Barrel. Poured a medium to deeper golden - amber, lightly hazy, with a small sized white head. Aromas of wood, -sweaty-, some funkiness, and caramel. Tastes of wood, fruity, and caramel. I really did not get any of the Cabernet in this, which I was looking forward to.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
"Dark fruit, caramel, and slight chocolate combine harmoniously in this aged (our draft was 3 years old) barleywine. Big alcohol was evident, but was warming, not hot. Full feel, slightly low on the carbonation, likely because of the age. Good brew. Still had a little hop bite even."

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Rattle N Hum. Deep amber-ruby beer. Thick sticky head. Aroma is lightly sweet with a heavy sweet caramel aroma. Quite hoppy and chewy with a lot of piny resinous hop character. Light sweet fruitiness as well. Slightly vineous along with a light cherry flavour. The body is very rich and full and it doesn’t seem to fall out in the middle like the barrel-aged version does. Could use a few years, but it’s still drinking pretty well. A bit of booze on the back.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Amber beer with a thin off-white head. Rich spicey, malty flavor with lots of caramelization. Caramel malt aroma with some earthiness. Hops present and backing, but don’t stand out. This just didn’t do it for me and I’m surprised to see so many high rankings. It’s just a lof of malty sweetness balanced with hops - there’s not a lot of complexity here and it gets tiring.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Baileys. Pours a deep amber color with a medium white head. A big sweet malty nose with some fresh citrus. The flavor is almost reminiscent of a wheat wine to me with light grainy tartness, very earthy, sweet toffee, yeast, some fruity hops. Pretty good. A bit of heat.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at Toronado 2009 Barleywine Festival.
Pours slightly hazy orange with off white head. The aroma is all resiny with pine hops to go along with an even and sweet malt background. The taste is moderately harsh with resiny grassy pine hops from front to back. Very IIPA like. I also get some malt sweetness attempting to smooth out the hops. The hops never really give any ground.
