Had on draft at the brewery. Big resin aroma, thick and chewy malts, warmimg, very rich malty character, fruity, very nice. Solid beer. malrubius (2861) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - JAN 2, 2009
On tap @ Rattle n Hum. Reddish amber with lasting head and lace. Sherry brown sugar alcohol aroma. Very fruity brown sugar port alcohol flavors. Sticky alcohol mouthfeel. Very strong tasting in the alcohol dept and somewhat astingent bitterness. Not as bad as, say, Brooklyn Monster, but still a challenge to drink. UPDATED: JUN 11, 2009 aroma includes soft hints of smoke, wood and toasted marshmallow. very nice head, full body, big and meaty, sticky mouthfeel, and a nice bitterness that was similar to Expedition stout. The meaty flavors in this are wonderfully displayed. A sheer joy! ABUSEDGOAT (2733) - California, USA - FEB 17, 2008
Draft from Toronado Barley Wine Festival. Listed as a blend of the 1999 and 2007. Rich hoppy aroma, similar to the Racer 5. Heavier bodied, somewhat sweeter, alcohol hidden well. jazz88 (2676) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 19, 2005

Draft. At rattle n hum. Tan color, lots of lace on the side of the glass. Doesn’t taste as boozy as I’d expect, but quite good and a little fruity DaSilky1 (2606) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 11, 2003
Cloudy orangish amber in color...a very creamy, chlorine accented whipped cream and chocolate chips aroma...medicine, alcohol, licorice, and spicy hops combine so nice and christmasy with nice hoppy cream and spice..nice creamy stuff ryanfolty (2540) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - MAR 27, 2014
March 24, 2014 - on tap at the Stone bistro. Opaque muddy brown pour with some head and lacing. Aroma and taste were sweet malt and piney hops. Seemed to be more of a double ipa than barley wine. Nickls (2524) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - JUN 21, 2010
(Old BA rate - tap Gingerman 09=
tap at Gingerman August 09) Thinner eggshell head that didn’t last too long, but not terrible retention; clear coppery brown color. Musty wetness on top of sweetish malts; bit of booze in the aroma. Medicinal and a bit herbal; kind of a mess here; wet woodiness; and a bit like cough syrup. Thicker and a bit sticky; bit cloying; soft carbonation. Not really good drinking; could barely finish my sample; just too may off flavors, or at least flavors that I did not enjoy. Overall, don’t know what they were going for in this one, but the mineral-like flavors on top of the booze and other stuff just missed. Draught at the brewpub. Amber colored with a creamy, off-white head. Sweet honey and doughy, worty aroma with some added floral hops. Malty and grainy flavors with a distinct unfermented wort or extract flavor, some caramel, and a hoppy finish. Thick and syrupy body. I’m not sure what was up with this, but it was way to worty tasting.
