I cannot see how this is ranked lower than the apricot version. This is a delightful beer. Equal parts sweet and sour with a bold prickly pear taste. Great tartness. fbm115 (187) - New Jersey, USA - SEP 29, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 30, 2010 Pours a dark brown. No head except around the sides.
Smells like sweet candies fruit. Not much barrel in the nose. Just a bit acidic. Touch of funk.
taste is in-between roast and carmel. no barrel flavor. lots of fruit flavor with i assume is the pear.
mouthfeel is medium body. low carbonation.
overall this was the best of the grizz. the other two were horrific. bhensonb (15497) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 11, 2015
Putting rating here - not sure to start a new beer. Board said sour brown, 6.2%, Bear Republic BA Prickly Pear. Seems different from Grizz, but I can’t find a reference anywhere to a 6.2%. Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown/black with a creamy tan head and orange red glints. Aroma is citrus, fruit, malt, oak. Med body or better. Flavor is mild sour, darkish malt, and something I don’t recognize. Somewhat earthy. Nice in a low key way. j12601 (12974) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - JUL 14, 2010
On tap at Bar Great Harry. Pours a deep ruby and garnot hued brown with a medium sized beige head. Light vanilla, soft mushy fruit. Old malt, syrup and old fruit. Nice light tartness. Light acid and vinegar, a bit of wood, tartness. blipp (9502) - La Mesa, California, USA - SEP 30, 2010
Draft. Pours brown with an off beige head. Tart candy like aroma with a hint of acidity. The flavor is lightly sour/tart with some fruity sweetness. Pretty good.

Tap at BGH. Drank this along with the regular BA and tangerine versions. Very little difference between them. Near black pour. Sweet, very fruity aroma, bursting with apple pie, nectarine, guava. Prominent but mellow acetic acid in the flavor, mild fruitiness, with an astringent/diaper finish. zdk (1917) - New York, New York, USA - OCT 4, 2010
tap at RnH - not all that different than the BA Grizz, maybe a touch sweeter. interesting fruits, dark molasses, sugar, tart. synthetic gum esters packed with blueberries. the sticky sweet coats the tongue. Nicely balanced finishes a bit earthy and woody. Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - NOV 29, 2010
Draft. Pours a dark bruin body with an off white head. Light pear tones, mild acidity hints of pears a bit warming. A bit messy in the middle maybe to much etoh. The finish is nice however with a light pear lingering. Decent. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - JAN 9, 2011
Draft @ BGH, sour bear republic event. Brune pour with some tan head. Tart pear fronted aroma, some sweet dark fruits and sugars. Bit of acidity, tart pear, dark fruit, oak, light sweet malt, little warming on the back end. WeeHeavySD (3387) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 26, 2011
