Putting rating here - not sure to start a new beer. Board said sour brown, 6.2%, Bear Republic BA Prickly Pear. Seems different from Grizz, but I can’t find a reference anywhere to a 6.2%. Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown/black with a creamy tan head and orange red glints. Aroma is citrus, fruit, malt, oak. Med body or better. On tap at Sourfest. Pours with a very deep brown body with a small tan head. Aromas are lightly fruity, oak, vinous, vinegar, caramel and red wine. A: The pour on this one is dark brown with a finger of off-white head.
S: The prickly pear certainly comes through on this. The base beer does too. There is a nice bit of tartness to the nose, but it’s mostly vinegar. It’s also quite sweet with a bit of a Jolly Rancher quality.
T: I thought the aroma was sweet but that was nothing after tasting this beer. Incredibly sweet and sugary with a ton of Jolly Rancher and prickly pear sweetness. A mild to moderate acetic sourness is there but is overwhelmed.
M: Medium body with a medium level of carbonation.
O: Although I thought the nectarine version was quite good, this one missed the mark big time.

Deep brown pour with a thick tan head. The nose is dark and soft with a lot of toasted aroma. A lot of fruity nose with a sweet candi sugar character. More Belgian tasting that the BA version although there is clearly some wildness beginning to take this one over as well. Chewy with a little bit of the same type of yeastiness along the back as the BA version. Lingering malic tartness but it still seems a little bit underattenuated.
