Racer X is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X is balance in a bottle.

"Man...another great entry into the double ipa style. this ones big all around, with a great piney nose, nice body, heavy flavors of hops and malt, and a dry bitter finish. Youll want another."

Draft. Pours hazy coppery with off-white head. Nose is piney hops, mango, tangerine. Tastes assertively hoppy with caramel malt, tangerine, and honeydew notes. Hefty, complex palate. This one is outstanding.

2011-11-19. Crisp dark amber orange body with a small beige head. 3+ Flavour is lovely, pleasant hoppy bitterness, mild citrus and resin, well balanced and flavours work very well together. 7+ Smooth medium to full bodied palate with soft carbonation. Aroma is a touch muted at first, modest resiny hops come out once you get into it. 7+ Dangerously drinkable, it is not super complex but rather lovely. I have been waiting to try this one for a while now. Draft at Blue Monk, Buffalo

On tap at Rattle & Hum. Pours a mostly clear golden amber with a medium white head. Pine, citrus, malt, and a hint of vanilla. Very light carbonation. Finishes with a really long grapefruit and quinine bitterness. Delicious.

Bottle at Craigs. Clear gold pour, thin white head. Massive pine, resin and grapefruit aromas. Taste has too much caramel sweetness though. Bit drier wouldve been ace.

On tap at Jackie-Os, $5 for a tumbler. ABV listed as 8.3%. Mildly hazy amber color, nice, super-dense-looking off-white head. Nose-smell is awesomely hoppy. Lots of lace. Now, this is a unique aroma... Hops have a very tropical fruity taste, also resiny and a bit spicy. Really light, crisp carbonation, but a big body with no viscosity. Great texture. Aftertaste has a good length to it for which to appreciate the unique hop aroma. My burps taste delicious. The malt balance in this is wonderful, it makes this maybe more sweet than bitter, yet the brew refrains from being syrupy in any way. Really damn good... Id really like to find this bottled some day, something to compete with the old standby, Stone Ruination...

Bottle at Asahiya. Orange-red with lace. Big citrus and tropical fruit nose, huge juicy fruits. Quite sweet flavor, soft, oily, full bodies. A bit cloying and almost syrupy, but nice.
