COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Racer X is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X is balance in a bottle.

Tap pour at Muddy Waters with blonderedhead. Tulip style glass...10oz pour. Slight hazy orange and golden color. Attractive white half finger head. Great lacing. Aroma is sweet citrus with orange and tropical notes. Some pine characteristics. Taste is downright breathtaking. Big and bold hop flavors with a lean towards resin and tropical fruit. The presence of alcohol is definitely felt but is almost deceptive in its potency. There is a pleasant malty, earthy quality that helps provide exquisite balance. An impressive older brother to Racer 5. Check this one out when available.

On tap at Hopcat A2. Pours a clear earthy orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has strong pine with a bit of citrus and an earthy grain and biscuit backbone. Flavor has earthy pine and grass notes backed by earthy biscuit.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2016 Fairly classic DIPA in look and nose, dank, medium orange, thin white head, very resiny and bitter. Pine, weed, simple syrup. Tastes far boozier than 8.3, I think to its detriment. Overall effect is unbalanced, a bit soapy and astringent, too sweet/boozy to be wierdly cloying despite all the bitterness. It?s not bad, but a rare miss by Bear Republic IMHO.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip. Color is a brilliant orange, slightly hazy and with a white frothy head that laces the glass excessively. Taste is nicely bitter, but not as intense as other DIPAs. Sticky, average carbonation, and with a dry finish. Nicely done!

Slightly hazy amber beer with off white head. Sweet malty aroma of bread and lots of ripe fruits and some alcohol. Really delicious aroma. The taste is sweet with lots of ripe fruit and caramel notes and a quite bitter finish. Full body.

650ml bottle from the Malt Shoppe in Tosa. No bottle date, but dont believe that was there a month ago or would have picked it up then. Pours an amber orange with an off-white head leaving some nice coats of lace. Aroma has sweet tangy fruits, pine, some sweet malts and citrus. Taste is of sweet toffee, spruce-y pine, chewy resin, tangerines, some other citrusy fruit and honey. Fuller than medium bodied, the blend is solid and there is somewhat of an alcohol presence. Finishes tangy and to the honey sweet side of bittersweet. A white whale over the years that never seemed to get to the Midwest, or was missed whenever it did. More an old style DIPA than anything extreme. Just a solid tasty drinker, with a good blend of flavors, smoothed out with the honey. 14.1

Pours a hazy, dirty orange. Aroma is pleasing enough, sweet malt and booze. Taste is prominent booze, strong bitter, soapy!, I like bitter, but this is a bit much.
